Someday I'll come back and tell the story of my engagement, but there is too much going on now that I want to share! A quick update for those of you who have not heard what has been happening in my life:
*I still teach remedial math, but got to add a freshman class this year
*K and I are engaged!
*We bought a house!
Now, some of you might say, hey! That is backward, aren't you supposed to get married first and THEN buy the house? Well, yes. But that's not how we did it. See, the government is giving out $8,000 to first time home buyers this year. And the housing market is really a buyers market. So this was the time to buy. K lived in the house for 2 months while I was still in my apartment. This weekend he is moving in with a friend of ours and I will be living in the house. We spend most of our time at the house working on projects, cooking together, and planning for the wedding. :D
Back on May 27, 2009, K and I signed the papers on our new home. It was built in 1909 and I classify it as a country victorian. It is 5 minutes from downtown, 20 minutes from my school and 20 from K's school which makes it an ideal location. We have 1/3 of an acre down in the flat part of the valley, although our property is on the edge of that valley, so the yard is sloped.
I've never tried pictures on here, so I'm going to take a shot at this...
Here is our house with the sold sign on the realtors post:
As you can see, it has a huge wrap around porch on two sides of the house. In the front corner that you can't see in that picture there is a porch swing. This is where we ate our first meal in the house:
With a house as old as this one is, there are a lot of unique features due to age and the previous owner. They lived here for 40 years and did a lot of projects themselves, many of which K and I scratch our heads over. Some of the fixes they did don't seem to make much sense, others are rather creative or comical.
That is one of the windows upstairs. I love the leaded glass here. It is part of what makes a victorian house.
One of the door knobs. I don't know if it is original, but I love the look. The doors are all solid wood and many of them have fancier hardware. The front door, now there is a treasure of its own. We cannot actually use the front door regularly because it cannot be unlocked from the outside.
This is one of those creative fixes I was speaking about. Notice the closet door (on the right) is actually blinds. The bedroom door is an accordion door that is only tall enough for me to walk through. K can't actually walk through standing up straight.
Well, I've got to head to church for now, I will continue updating this later!
