Yay!! We are finally done with our research papers!! Great job everyone!! Hmm….still I always wonder what happened to the half of our class. Many dropped out? Anyways, thumbs up for those who stayed in class, and keep it up! ;)

This week in English class, we talked about Sophocles’ Antigone. It’s a very interesting piece of literature. Antigone, regardless of the fact that she would be punished or put to death of the act of properly burying her brother, stayed strong and determined to do what was right. She felt the need to bury him because he is her loving brother that had always been there for her and most importantly because it was the right thing to do. However, I do wish Antigone stayed strong till the very end and didn’t kill herself. She was a character with such strong will and determination, and it is such a shame for her to throw her life away like that. Even though the situation for her was not pleasant and maybe also she felt that all hope was lost, she should’ve at least had faith and belief in herself that things will be okay if she stays strong. Haha that’s just my opinion. We also talked about Choragos, which means “head of chorus.” The Choragos sets the scene and remind of us of the story, reflects views of common man, influence the audience, reminds us of the background story, and most importantly, remind us of which character to cheer for. This play is also considered a heroic tragedy because Creon later in the play realizes his wrong doings and that his acts were morally wrong. In the end, Creon says, “Lead me away. I have been rash and foolish. I have killed my son and my wife. I look for comfort; my comfort lies here dead. Whatever my hands have touched has come to nothing. Fate has brought all my pride to a thought of dust” (Sophocles L 133-139). Because of his morally wrong doings, Creon has caused his own tragic ending and has lost everything that was precious to him in his life.

Have a great weekend everyone!!! :)
