THE CAR PARK

Uruha was in fact a really chatty person. His public image was indeed always underlined as the shy, not very verbal person, but that was only on the outside. With his friends and all the people he worked with he would find himself in situations where people actually told him that they’d like him to say something too. But that changed when he met Kai. He never, in his entire life, met someone speaking so fast, with his mind scattered into so many directions and whose point was always more than vague. Kai also had the guts to interrupt him in the middle of his sentence one day while he was speaking with Aoi, and to start his own conversation with the black haired man as if he weren’t even there. Uruha would realize later that Kai wasn’t even aware of his personality and the way he tends to communicate with people.

So for him it was more than surprising that, in the situation they were dealing with, Kai was so silent.

The car park was empty on this floor except for two or three cars. They were standing beside one raw concrete pillar, painted around the center of all its sides with a dark blue signaling color. In the background one could hear the constant, annoying sound of a neon light flickering.

Checking his mobile phone clock: 4:15 a.m.

“If they received my message before I lost the network they would’ve been here by now…”- Uruha concluded with a long sigh.

They had been stuck here for almost three hours now. They were the only ones that had to stay overtime to work in the studio. At least Kai had to, because he still didn’t finish his drum configuration and the recording parts of his rhythm section. Uruha eventually had to stay over because he had been too damn lazy to finish his pieces in time, postponing things over and over again.

When they did realize they were the only ones still standing in the recording room and Kai started to have his wrist pains again, they decided to leave together.

And that was the start of this whole mess.

Currently they were on one level of the parking, lost, and completely alone. They did try a couple of stairs before but it seemed they were locked, as the whole architectural ensemble, along with the office building, were closed during the night.

Glancing over at Kai, Uruha noticed his slight shivering. Right. Kai was feeling hot these days, running around only in his black t-shirt with the KISS logo on it.

“Are you cold?”

Kai’s hair covered part of his face.

“no,” while staring blankly to the ground.

He put his phone back in the pocket of his jacket. His stomach growled painfully.

“God, I’m so hungry…” - bending his legs by the knees, he leaned his head on his hands.

“I’m sorry…”

Kai’s voice was barely a whisper, more like a muffled sound. Made Uruha sigh audibly.

“It’s not your fault…I should’ve taken my access card too.”

Kai had his eyes closed now. He looked visibly tired and exhausted. He was weary.

“So this is it? You’re going to sleep?” - Uruha tried to keep a cheerful tone to the whole situation.

“What do you want me to do?” - he started to pick at his black jeans, pulling them better over his leather boots.

“My phone battery is dead, we can’t find your car to sleep in…” - he then looked towards Uruha. “I’m just…sick.”

From the distant highway one could hear the siren of a passing ambulance. Uruha was smiling meekly.

“I know.”

He then carefully took his jacket off, got on his feet and started to put it over Kai.

“What are you…” - while raising his head.

“I’m going to take a leak. And you just like to shiver to death in silence, so I think you’ll find better use of it, right?” Kai brought his gaze back to the ground, remaining silent. “Right.”

Only in his white t-shirt and dark grey pants, Uruha drifted away from their place in a slightly hyper fashion.

In its emptiness, the parking infused rather troubling thoughts. But not to Uruha. He succeeded to keep his optimism on high levels and to look at the brighter side. The silent structure remained cold in its little concrete universe, playing no other role than to just manage to shelter them.

Taking his member out of his pants Uruha started to piss by a pillar. He managed to find a corner where no surveying cam would witness the embarrassing moment. From his position he couldn’t see Kai, only the large opening without any windows on his right. The nearby highway was empty, some taxi driving by from time to time. Hookers on the street, pimps on the corners, a group of drunken men laughing loudly. The far away office towers were covered in darkness, the never ending red blinking dots signaling them.

Gaze staring into nothing, he looked like he was thinking about something.

It started to get chilly.

Zipping his pants back up he took his cigarettes out. One stick - he lit it. The shattering click from the lighter echoed through the large, wide space.

He could see Kai in the distance now. His dark hair was completely covering his face as Kai brought his jacket over his neck, covering half of his face also. Uruha was smiling gently with the corner of his mouth. Took another drag. Stopped two meters away from him. Looked like he drifted off. Turning around, Uruha looked once more at the car park. Remembered one of Kai’s little confusing, switching-from-one-subject-to-another, moments. When between “what I ate today”, “this is my idea of rhythm” and “did you see my keys?” he briefly told him about this horror movie where this character awakes completely alone in a devastated city, that at night is full with these infected people turned into beasts. He started to smile a little. He told Kai back then that he didn’t want spoilers - that didn’t stop him.

Finishing his cigarette he approached Kai.

Stirring a little, Kai mumbled something incoherent.

“it’s me,” whispered Uruha, now by his side.

The flickering of the neon light was once more audible, Uruha looking from one large area to the other. He had goose bumps on his right arm, but started to feel Kai’s emanating body warm. Sooth him. He would have wanted to ask Kai silly little things. Things like, what he usually does on Saturday - because it was Saturday today. Saturday morning. What does he do when his wrists start aching horribly - if he takes special medication. How can he smile constantly like that and always manage to come up with a funny little joke? How can he switch so suddenly from one temper to another.

Why he is so full of insecurities.

Insecurities…when no one told him what a wonderful person he is.

He suddenly felt Kai’s head on his shoulder, leaning there. His breathing had a steady pace and Uruha involuntarily focused on that calming sound. He looked at Kai’s thighs and his whole form beside him.

Careful not to shake him, he directed his right hand in the pocket of his pants. Took the phone out.

No network connection in your area

Still.

Closed his eyes.

The last thing he remembered was Kai bringing himself closer to him.
