We had a Tech Talk today from our HR Director (less tech, more talk, to be truthful) on the topic of "Communication, Competition and Chocolate". It wasn't quite as awful as it sounds, but I did get roped into writing a short article entitled "A Day In the Life" for our monthly company newsletter. I'm viewing it as like writing a blog entry, only with all my most exciting work moments rolled into one day, and all the cynicism removed.
Sol Kerzner recently lost his bid to develop the UK's first so-called supercasino in the massive white elephant that is the Millennium Dome. The tender went to a site in Manchester instead, a bid apparently being organised by a certain Mr Sol Kerzner. The Grauniad's G2 section featured an article about him yesterday; it was kind of surreal reading about the bantustans and Bophuthatswana, long forgotten names from my childhood. Frankly, I've been in a bit of a funk for the last few weeks (with both bigHair and myself working non-stop, the weather uninspiring, and Mater's visit looming) and now I seem to be having some kind of massive motherland nostalgia trip; I think I really need a holiday.
