Back from a 430 mile drive* to Wales and back, visiting the in-laws. In true British tradition, we fought our way through a mountain of food on Christmas Day, then fought our way to the shops on Boxing Day ("there wasn't much Christmas spirit around," was the wry comment from one phone-in commentator on the car radio concerning the attitudes of shoppers). As a result, we have ordered new carpets for our flat. This is quite a big achievement as it means we made a major DIY purchase before the end of 2006. It was also worth the nightmare of trying to find parking on the first day of the sales, I think. We also visited Cardiff, which was icy cold but really pretty. I do quite like Cardiff, partially because the bilingual signs everywhere kinda remind me of home. We also saw the new Wales Millennium Centre, an impressive and massive theatre complex, and now, thanks to their use of it for scene seques, forever associated in my mind with the tv series Torchwood.

Glad to be back home though. Hope you all had a fabulous festive season.

* Wales has a successful brewery chain called Brains, much like Youngs or Fullers in England. So we saw lots of pubs with big signs saying "Brains". I smiled every time we drove past one.
