Palin?

Aug 29, 2008 19:50

Is a very serious problem.

I have to think long and hard about this, because the one and only thing that could make me stay home in November is McCain picking a Dominionist for VP. This makes Palin look as bad as Fuckabee, and with McCain's age, it's a worry and then some.

Dammit.

I was wondering what your reaction would be. And my guess was more or less on the mark. McCain really swung the opposite direction I expected. (Or hoped for.)

*sighs*

Btw, were you aware of anthology called Politics Noir? I was reminded of it today when I saw it in my library.

Hadn't heard of the anthology, but the "noir" books appear to be a series. I've got "Baltimore Noir" out from the library. Don't care for short stories, but I'll give it a go.

I'll call you tomorrow when I wake up and let you know how I feel. I'm shooting for midafternoon, but we'll see what happens.

It's not published by the same group that do the Noir series of books.

I'm recharging the cell phone even as we speak. Hopefully I'll remember to turn it on in the morning.

Not to mention that a friend of mine just posted about her personal and business priorities over the environment and science. I've only just heard of this woman, and I'm terrified of her already.

I've heard about her advocacy of creationism. Got a link to your friend's post, or is it flocked?

From what I've read and seen so far this Palin person really is a bad choice. :/

While in many ways I think it was a smart choice, and to a large degree there are things she's done which make me doubt the dominionist aspirations...She is problematic.

I really don't know what to do. I'm simply keeping an eye out to see how she's behaving in the future and what she says.

I sure as shit ain't going to vote for Obama and his fascist fanatic parades.

No, unless something drastic changes, I won't vote for Obama either. I will probably write in Rudy or something. I worry for the country either way.

The problem with Palin's religion isn't that it's "loony" or "minority" or any other such thing. The problem is that AoG has half steeplejacked the Republican Party by running stealth campaigns in minor-- and now major-- elections. Their agenda is extreme, to reconfigure the US into a Christian theocracy, their own little caliphate. I consider them no less a threat than the Taliban. I've dealt with at least one walkaway from an AoG cell church who is a lot of kinds of messed up by it, and perhaps Palin is a more tolerable part of that group structure, but we simply do not know the degree to which her mind may not fully be her own-- I am not willing to take the risk. Tolerance doesn't mean bending to people who want to destroy you. (If McCain were 10 years younger, perhaps this would be less of an issue.)

Oh, and even setting aside her religion, there's the reality that she simply isn't qualified to be president for the same reasons Obama is not qualified-- she's been in elected office for about ten minutes. And has no stated position on most of the important foreign policy concerns of the day, including the war in Iraq.

(BTW, if her religion isn't an issue, why are her people so desperate to scrub her Wikipedia entry? (link on request, Dark Christian has it.)

hey, haven't heard from you in a while.

Any chance we can game on Halo 3 coop or something sometime? I could use help with the achievements.

I think I sent you a message or something, did you get it?

I hope to hear from you soon!

Hi there! I've seen you sending requests to chat and play, but if I'm on during a weekend evening, I'm busy playing with my husband or other guests and can't respond to you.

I haven't really figured out how the message functions work on Xbox, lately I've pretty much only been playing on it when my husband has free time. I can try doing coop with you some night, although I don't know how well that would go as I have no way to communicate with you. Don't have a headset, and have looked at the ones in the store and they would all be painful for me to wear. What achievements do you need, and what difficulty do you normally play on? We just cleared the game on Heroic, so I'd be comfortable with Normal or Heroic, but not with Legendary yet.

Oh, well, I never knew as I never got a response back to my messages or anything. You weren't able to pause the game and respond back I take ( ... )

I looked on the message field, saw voice messages, and didn't take the time to listen to them as I've been busy. And no, good grief, no I'm not going to make two people in my house wait while I pause the game to respond to a request to chat by someone I don't know. That, to me, is the equivalent of going to visit someone and spending half the visit twiddling my thumbs because they're chatting on their cell phone with someone else. I'd planned to try to find your LJ so I could comment back here, and have been very ill and distracted by that ( ... )
