I absolutely must buy
this book! It's an expansion of
this excellent article (the vast majority of which I absolutely agree with) complete with a counterpoint by Matthew Stover, author of "Traitor" from the New Jedi Order novels, the one book from the series I'd rate as exceptional, mainly for its cogent dissection of Force philosophy. I'm quite surprised that he's taking up the case on behalf of Lucas canon (i.e. absolutist good vs. evil) Star Wars, since he doesn't *write* that way.
There have been a plethora of books about Star Wars, including a couple about philosophy, but all have been enthusiastic, applauding hagiographies of the point of view of Yoda et al. Can't tell you how happy it makes me that someone out there decided to publish something poking holes in Lucas' idea of ethics, particularly someone who writes as well as Brin does.
