I think that Caitlyn's problem started when I introduced her to my favorite TV show The Zone and the gorgeous Hunter brothers, Jaden and Ash, who ironically enough hunt down supernatural creatures. At first I thought that it would be great--something that we could share together but then she started to become more obsessed and fanatical about the show, even more than me. I should have realized what was going on then but I didn't.
When the show killed off Jaden in one of the episodes, Caitlyn had a breakdown and I had to try and calm her down, telling her that it was only a TV show. And I was right-- they brought him back in a subsequent episode. But that didn't seem to satisfy Caitlyn at all. Then The Incident happened. I think that it was at the end of one of the following episodes where they had changed Jaden's personality. He had been the caring and compassionate of the two brothers and now he was the complete opposite. So once the episode had ended, I guess in the heat of the moment, Caitlyn just got up and started to scream and sob quite loudly. That was weird by itself. But then to my shock, she turned back towards the TV screen and started to hit it shouting, "How dare you change him and make him out to be like that?! He isn't like one of your toys! He is a human being!" I was bewildered and stunned that she would react like this. This wasn't normal behavior at all and I suddenly realized that I didn't know my best friend all that well. How could have I have known that she do such a thing over a silly TV character?
Let me tell you, Doc, I was so relieved when her mom came running into the room to help me pull her away from the screen. Her hands were cut up from hitting the glass so hard and I spent the next two hours putting bandages on her trying to stop the bleeding in addition to comforting her as she sobbed about this Jaden Hunter, who isn't even a real person! It took me a long time to sooth and comfort her until she was calm enough to let the paramedics treat her. That isn't normal is it?
No, I didn't think so and that is exactly why you've gotta help her, Doc. You've gotta fix her and make her brand new again. I need my best friend back and I'll help in any way I can. I promise.
