Chapter 14
Jaejoong:
Your chest hurts, your heart races, your legs shake, your hands tremble, and your vision blurs. All these sensations assault your body and mind; making, forcing you to act out of rage and jealousy; something you didn’t want to do.
“Is this some kind of revenge? Are you two enjoying seeing me get humiliated before your servants?” Your fury increases every time your gaze settles upon his bed, and then your head starts to play images that make your blood boil.
“I don’t know what you are talking about.”
The nerves of this guy! How dare he deny what you have witnessed with your own eyes.
“Then tell me, Your majesty, what was she doing here?” There, you have finally said it and you don’t give a damn if he thinks you are being pathetic.
“My personal affairs should not concern you.”
“Not concern me?! I am your spouse. I deserve more respect than that, don’t you think?”
“So now we are talking about respect.” His deep, brown eyes search with desperation something inside yours; something he wants to grasp with his own hands. “Were you showing me respect the day you told me you were playing games with me? Hmm? Is that how you respect people?”
“You know damn well that you deserved that!” Your voice vibrates through the walls of his bedroom.
“Yes and I also know, if I remember correctly, that you didn’t want to see me ever again. Wasn’t that what you said, Jaejoong? To give my heart to someone else because you didn’t think it was worthy of love?” His hand takes your right hand, forcing you to touch his chest, to feel his heart beating under his clothes and somewhat hot skin.
Your mind wants to scream: “No! No! I didn’t mean it like that!” But you end up saying: “So that’s why you only waited two weeks before you gave your dignity to a woman? Is that how long it takes for you to give your heart away? Or is it your pants you can’t keep on?”
Like the weather on a normal day, everything changes from then on, bringing a storm into your not so friendly conversation.
His hand immediately releases yours, distancing himself from your form. His warm eyes change into cold ones in a fraction of a second, turning to stare at your face. Something within you tells you that your words have finally cut that thin string that used to hold his composure to his tired mind. He is mad, for you have insulted not only his pride, but also his love for you.
A mocking smile settles across his face as he says:
“You are right” he says, standing a few steps from you. “I couldn’t wait to find release, so I took from her what you never gave me. Pleasure and a warm body. Someone with a soul and blood running through her veins. Someone who can scream my name in ecstasy as I bury myself deep inside her. In other words, anyone but y…”
Golden-like skin turns bright red, transforming in mere seconds the shape of your palm across his cheek. His face has shifted to his right thanks to the force you used to slap him only to avoid hearing his truthful words.
Your head is a mess; you can’t think properly, can’t bring yourself to utter a single word. Should you apologize, scream or cry? No, you shouldn’t do any of those things. It was his fault you reacted in such way. Your initial intention was to come in peace and sort things out like two civilized adults; to learn more about his past and pains, but the image of him and her writhing in pleasure under white sheets has turned your heart into a black mass of jealousy.
“You know what?” A heavy sigh escapes from his lips, taking a moment before he finally feels ready to speak again. “I can’t figure you out, Jaejoong. It frustrates me to no end not knowing what you really want. I mean, two weeks ago you were practically screaming in my face that you didn’t want to know anything about me. That you hated my guts and now, now you are accusing me of something I didn’t commit. Tell me Jaejoong, what game are you playing now? Tell me the rules so that I can play too. Come on Jaejoong, tell me.” The unexpected calmness in which he now speaks, makes you realize that even after a storm has struck, the sun can still rise. Both have suffered, cried a river, cut often and left to wither like a flower under the scorching sun. But life goes on and new beginnings arise from many places as long as you keep on searching.
His hands grasp your shoulders delicately, keeping you at a close distance, forcing you to answer his question. But how does he expect an answer when you don’t have one.
“I don’t know. I don’t know.” You are desperate too, tired of trying to find the solution that will finally bring you happiness after so much suffering. “I…”
“Your majesty.” One of the guards has entered the chamber without any of you noticing his presence; interrupting your conversation with some important news.
“What is it?” Yunho inquires, annoyed at said man without turning to acknowledge his presence.
“They are waiting for you, Your majesty.” The man announces, bowing only after Yunho decides to stare at him.
A look of frustration settles quickly upon his face, showing that he has clearly forgotten to be present at some important meeting; an unusual behavior coming from the honorable King.
You see him sigh, closing his eyes perhaps in annoyance, and then removing his hands from your shoulders. “Let’s talk about this another day, okay?” he whispers, leaving you behind to stride behind the guard before you can even utter a single word in protest.
~.~.~.~.~
“You always take good care of them, Your majesty.” Chansook says smiling.
After your conversation with Yunho ended abruptly, you decided that a little bit of distraction wasn’t going to do you any harm. So after pacing around your room like a maniac for several hours, biting your nails until you realized that food was a better option, you ended up here, surrounded by the beautiful plants of the imperial garden.
“I've neglected them for so long.”
“That is because you weren’t feeling good, Your majesty.” That’s right, your guilty conscience wouldn’t let you come out of your chamber for two long weeks; a period of time you used to reflect about your current situation with Yunho.
“It’s so beautiful, Your majesty. Just like you.” Her voice immediately makes you turn around, surprised at finding her so close to you. “I hope I didn’t scare you, Your highness. But I was just taking an afternoon walk when I saw you and decided to use this opportunity to present myself.”
Present herself? When did you ask her to do such thing? It’s not like you even care if she decides to wander around the palace at any time of the day. As long as she keeps her distance from you, she is more than welcome to do whatever she pleases.
“My name is Min Hee, Lee Min Hee.” A bright smile settles across her face as she bows, too bright to be real. “My father was a close friend of the former King. That’s how His majesty and I met.” Her brown eyes stare directly at yours; something you have learned during the time you have stayed in this place to be seen as an act of disrespect among royalty.
“May I?” Her white hands are caressing your red roses before you even know how to answer her vague question; feeling the soft texture of the petals under her slim fingers as she smiles once again. “They truly are beautiful, but…their beauty can’t rival yours, Your majesty; the most exquisite rose of them all.”
You try not to let her sardonic tone bother you, not even when her servant giggles at her comment; to convince yourself that she is a nice lady and that you are exaggerating things out of proportion. But when her delicate hands pull roughly one of the roses from its roots, your blood begins to boil in rage.
“Careful, my lady,” you warn, mimicking her smile as you stare directly at her. “They might look beautiful and defenseless, but they still have thorns and they can inflict pain even to someone as delicate and respectful as you.” The look of self-confidence quickly dissipates from her eyes as she tries her hardest to maintain her cool.
Taking advantage of the moment, you grasp the flower from her hands to plant it in its respective spot, hiding a playful smirk from her eyes.
“I’ll keep that in mind, Your majesty,” she replies; her tone of voice sounding less friendly than before..
Good, you think to yourself.
“By the way, how is His majesty doing? Has his fever gone down yet?” she inquires all of a sudden, freezing your thoughts on the spot.
“F-Fever?” Is all you can say as you accept the handkerchief that Chansook offers you to clean the dirt off your hands.
“Yes, didn’t His majesty inform you? I thought that was the reason you went to visit him this morning. He’s been running a fever for the last couple of days.”
[“At least she cares for His majesty, unlike…] The guard had said and he was right; you didn’t care enough for him to even ask him about his health. All it took for you to get mad at him before you even noticed any signs was to see a woman getting out of his room; the woman standing in front of you with a judgmental look plastered on her face.
But how were you supposed to know when nobody notified you of his condition?
His chest; he was unusually hot this morning. You felt him when he made you touch him and the look he had on his face wasn’t of annoyance but of tiredness and perhaps even pain instead.
“Your majesty?” Chansook can only follow close behind you as you try to walk as fast as you can to his chamber, hoping to sort things out once and for all.
~.~.~.~
“Jaejoong?”
“Mmm?”
The bed shakes under your weigh as you shift your face towards his voice, trying to pry your eyes open.
“Y…Yunho?” His sweet smile melts your heart as you gaze at his beautiful chocolate-brown eyes staring back at yours with the same love and respect you feel for him.
When you arrived to his chamber, you expected to find him like you did in the morning, but the guards explained to you that he was still busy in a meeting. So you decided to wait inside, spending your time wisely as you waited for him. But as the sun began to set behind the mountains, your impatience grew stronger yet. In the end, his bed looked much more inviting that yours. So now here you are, staring like a fool at that sexy mole of his while his fingers interweave themselves into your black, wavy hair.
“Wait a second. Let me ask one the guards to accompany you to your bedroom.” He moves, trying to get off the bed, but you hold his wrist, stopping his movements silently.
“Don’t,” you whisper, kneeling on the bed to place your hand on his forehead, checking his temperature the only way you can. “Thank goodness.” You sigh in relief. “Why didn’t you tell me?” Your voice only reflects your preoccupation; the need to learn more about his reasons.
His gaze falls upon your porcelain-like face. “I didn’t think you would care.” It pains you to realize the truth about your relationship with him through his words. To know that even when both of you live under the same roof, there is still a great distance between your hearts. But now you know, deep within you, that if you want your relationship with Yunho to progress, you’ll have to let your heart guide you from now on.
Silence settles between your bodies as you close said distance, placing your moist, red lips over his. It’s been a while since you last tasted him as sweetly as now; the image of him giving you your first kiss under the cherry tree coming to your mind in seconds.
His strong arms embrace your waist as naturally as he first did, securing you close to him as your body quickly surrenders to his warmth. His tongue begs to explore the cavern of your mouth and you comply happily, inviting him to feast on you.
Reason has long abandoned your mind when you felt his tongue tasting your hard palate. Thoughts about what is right and wrong circle around your head, but you don’t mind them, don’t want to think about the consequences of your acts because what matters the most in this moment is him being with you.
“Jae…” he breathes out, trying to normalize his breathing. “I’m afraid you’ll have to leave. I don’t think I’ll be able to stop myself if you stay any longer.”
“Yunho…” Your arms encircle his neck, bringing your lips close to his ear. “I don’t want you to stop,” you whisper…
