the ten phases of muggy

ok i'm determined to get a post in before the end of August, particularly since we've ordered some new broadband internets for our flat. they're being delivered in a week or so. i'm not sure how these things work, whether it's something coming in the post or a man coming to screw things into the wall, or a disc arriving to put things on my computer, so it's quite exciting for me!

the burglary is all done and dusted (that's the burglary that happened to us, not one that we've committed!), although the window hinge still hasn't been mended and leaks a bit when it's raining.

hiddenshallows and i went to the South of France at the end of July (i got a St. Tropez spray tan the day before and arrived looking relaxed and sun-kissed rather than my usual shiny white!) to spend a week with my Dad, Step-mum and siblings. Laura was suffering rather a lot with two giant swollen and sprained ankles but we still managed to have a really lovely holiday visiting Cannes and Nice and spending lots of recuperative time in the pool. i tried mussels for the first time, and Laura may never eat them again since being served an entire kilo in one sitting!

my Mum and Step-dad came to visit us in a hired van filled with boxes and boxes of my stuff, which was piled up all over the flat in gradually decreasing heaps as i managed to go through it finding new homes, freecycling and filling up binbags. i now live in the same location as all my school reports, my diaries (age 13-17), various favourite books from my childhood, my flugelhorn, sporting equipment and Pog collection. it's actually quite novel. i'm also falling in love with my PS2 all over again. Kingdom Hearts is the best game on the planet!

i've been exploring suburban Surrey with my homeboy Greg exploiting the fact that he has a driving license and a car, ate the best Japanese food of my life in someone's converted living room restaurant, saw Transformers (robots in disguise with feelings!) and Laura and i are considering a move out to commuter country at the end of our 6-month contract.

we also attempted to go to an outdoor childrens' theatre performance of 'The Labyrinth' mid-August, but the non-summery weather conspired against us and although i think it did go ahead we weren't too inspired by huddling together in the rain trying to hear over the wind, so we went home, leaving our ticket money at the box office as a token of support!
