Oh man, that is one of the worst responses to "I like anime" ever! Suddenly you're labeled a pervert even though there's so much more to anime than that.
NC-17 would probably do the exact opposite of boring a kid; it would probably make them more curious. I mean, I understand that some kids are simply horny, because of some reason of another, but when I was younger all I thought about was shoujo stuff, like Sailor Moon. Actually, I wasn't really introduced to the whole expanse of stuff that is anime until a couple of years ago; I had a wise and all-knowing sensei though. XD
I know what you mean about the sweet hetero couples; take Sakura and Li from CCS and Tsubasa, for example. One of the sweetest couples ever, truly an OTP if anyone's looking for one. But there are some good shounen-ai couples too, like Shuichi and Yuki from Gravitation; I mean, their antics make me crazy sometimes, but I loves 'em.
I guess one of the appeals of making these couples out of nowhere is that they are a bit out there, and people are attracted by things out of the ordinary. Or maybe because there is a slight twist to the relationship because they are the same gender. I mean, in yaoi/yuri couples, there is usually one who is more masculine and one that is more feminine, which sounds very hetero in nature, and yet it is striking because it is two boys/girls. The same can be said about heterosexual gender-bending manga.
Haha, I think I'm just rambling on now; it's hard to figure out why people do or like certain things. There's so much information about it that someone could write a paper on it. XD
Exactly! T_T And it's so hard to explain that it isn't just pervert stuff, because the people who think that are usually the same types who are very stubborn and closed mided about anything outside of their own understanding. I feel the same way about curious kids, and about not even knowing about that sort of stuff when I was young. (I remember learning about Haruka + Michuru and being very.. confused to say the least XD;;) But had I seen some fanart of my favourite series that was labeled NC17, I would've looked as soon as the room was empty. I also think the kids knowing more has alot to do with how quickly some kids are maturing. I ran a day camp last summer, and a couple of the kids (ages 10 - 13) were having a very intelligent conversation about using alcohol and pot. Basically, they were saying they understood why some kids do, but they didn't like the idea of messing up their brains. At that age, the mention of anything slightly illegal around a teacher would've made me horrified. There'd be no way I could've talked about it in that wise manner. Bwahaha! It amuses me that you had a learned sensei in the ways of anime. XD;;
I actually haven't seen any gravitation, but I've heard it's very well done. And just thinking about the cute factor of Sakura and Li sends me into girly shojo loving giggles. XD;;
I guess you're right. Maybe I should just stop questioning these things. XD;;
