Ooo! Two posts in one go! :D
This one is a bit more rant-tastic than the last. XD;;

I was checking out random LJ and I accidentally stumbeleld upon what I thought was an FMA fanart community, and I wanted to check it out. Alas, it was an FMA -yaoi- fanart community (probably said so in the community name, I probably should pay more attention). ;-; But, when I was reading the userinfo, it said that yaoi doesn't mean what I thought it meant.

"The word Yaoi was originally used to refer to fan manga (such as doujinshi) that focused on homosexual relationships between male characters, especially two bisho-nen - the manga equivalent of slash.
The term is an acronym derived from the Japanese phrase ???????????????? ( yama nashi, ochi nashi, imi nashi ), meaning "no climax, no resolution, no meaning." Its target audience, readership and creators are almost exclusively young to middle-age women.
Nowadays, the term is often used in a general way to refer to male-male sexual or romantic content anywhere in the galaxy of anime, manga and fan fiction based on these; usually of a more hard-core nature than sho-nen-ai.
The term "BL (Boy's Love)" is more often used in Japan than the term Yaoi. There exists a large mainstream market for Boys' Love comics in Japan, as well as a flourishing do-jinshi market (see sho-nen-ai)."
-Wikipedia (explained in far greater detail than it was in the info. XD;;)
I find that knowing what yaoi actually means really solidifies my opinion of the yaoi fandom (not the people in it, the act of liking it. XD;;). "No climax, no resolution, no meaning". That sounds very much like porn. Therefore, saying "I LOVE yaoi!" is akin to saying "I LOVE watching gay porn!". Now, I understand that many poeple like porn. That's fine. But don't advertise it. Would you join an LJ porn community (if you would, great, I respect your ability to throw off social taboos)? But some of the people in the yaoi fandom are 12 - 13 years old! If my little sister came home one day saying that she loved reading Hustler, well, my response wouldn't be very... pleasant.
Now, please don't take this as homophobia. I've got no problem with homosexuality. But I am not a porn fan. I don't watch it, I don't look at it. And if someone told me, proudly and openly, that they "love watching porn!" I would be a bit wary of them. Seems to me that porn, like masturbation, or your sexual exploits with a significant other, should be kept at least a little private. Talk about it with your closest friends, maybe, if you're all comfortable with it.
So, my point: Why has it become socially acceptable (at least, in the anime society XD;;) to be a yaoi lover, but men who obsessivly watch hentai are considered "dirty"?
Oh yeah, and my other point: If you're 13 years old and watching porn, go play some wholesome video games or something. Because that's far, far too young. Even if it is two boys having sex, it's still sex.
