okay, 1 week away to spend time with my girlfriend and her son - my godson - who were in Ontario (Oshawa) to visit her family - and to spend time with my parents before they went down to Texas again. Wow. Got down there last Sunday evening in time for dinner. It's fun to visit and bond together while helping them with their labours.
1st night - peeling tomatoes, chopping celery, peeling and chopping onions, chopping sweet and hot peppers. All for their salsa. Don't forget how much I love tomatoes. ugh.
Monday - spent the day with my friend and godson at the Toronto Zoo with my godson telling me (quite loudly - he is 7) not to look at the cages with the snakes - shudder. We had dinner at the farm which consisted of roasted hotdogs and sausages over a fire.
Tuesday - spent the morning and part of the afternoon with my friend and godson again. Tuesday evening loaded wood into the truck for dad to take to a neighbours. That was weird as I remember carring it in the opposite direction (into the basement of the house) when I was a kid.
Wednesday went into Port Hope around 10:30 to get my debit card fixed (it was demagnetized) and a hair cut. Also shopped around a bit. Found a great deal on some Cherished Teddies figurines which I bought for future gifts for my oldest niece. Bought a couple of other Xmas related presents for friends. Did some embroidery in the evening. Visited my grandmother in the afternoon.
Thursday 2 am woken up by my mother to tell me that she and my father were taking my grandmother to the hospital. They get home at 6:30. We all head into Bowmanville to visit her and then do some shopping at the Oshawa Centre. They took me to Halendas Deli. Ukrainian deli. Ohhhhh. Wish it was closer.
Pick and clean 2 and 1/2 dozen leeks. 20 came back to Ottawa with me. Must do something with them tomorrow. Also received 12 squash (acorn and pepper). Helped pick more peppers and pull plants as the forecast called for frost.
Also made some pork shaslisks for Thanksgiving in 2 weeks time at the parents.
Friday. Saw my grandmother - she has been sick for over a year and slowly dying. Her cancer is in the intestines. The Dr. has decided that she would be better in the hospital now and maybe in a couple of weeks she can go home for an hour or so and then return. She is calling the hospital her home. She would prefer to stay at home with her family looking after her 24 hours a day as that is the type of care she now requires. Mom and Dad are agonizing over whether they should go to Texas now or not. I have told them to go. Dad needs to get away (as does my mother). He has cancer as well and this will probably be their 2nd and last time to go away with the trailer for an extended period of time.
I tried to say my good-byes - not easy. Dr. told me that she will not make it till spring. She thinks that she might see grandchildren who are due in February. too much emotional turmoil here - negative and positive.
Came back to Ottawa with Suelet. Good time there with. Really appreciated the opportunity to forget about my troubles.
Very glad to be home. Was greeted by two furrballs and a husband. Very nice. When I entered the house I called out hello and heard two thumps on the floor of the bedroom as the kitties jumped off the bed to come downstairs and say hello.
