I picked up my niece and nephew at my parents place early Saturday morning. I went down on
Friday but not at the time I wanted to. We arrived back in Ottawa late in the morning, grabbed a quick bite to eat and then took off for the Maxville Highland Games. This was our first time, as was it for the kids, going to the Games. We saw caber tossing, highland dancing, pipe bands and many vendors plus the clan buildings. We had a fabulous dinner of haggis and the kids had Scottish pies. They also tried a bite of my haggis but had to be persuaded to do so since some told them what haggis was "really made of" as opposed to what it is made of now, ie. modern sausage casing when selling to the public. We left early to beat the crowd but still saw the pipe bands massing on the field.

On Sunday the kids wanted to go to the War Museum. We took Aviation Parkway through Rockcliffe near the the Ottawa River for a small scenic tour and then we went up Wellington Street to see the Parliament buildings. We arrived at the Museum and proceeded to spend the next four hours there. They made it through everything but the Korean War and Cold War exhibits.

We made a oil fondue for dinner and had homemade ice cream for dinner.

Monday, hubbie made us some fabulous flapjacks for breakfast and afterward we headed out to the Museum of Civilization. We were able to get through the West Coast First Nations exhibit hall and the Canada Hall. Every time I go there I find they have added additional buildings and exhibits. Canada Hall is our favourite. I made some sandwiches for a picnic which we enjoyed in the park below the Museum and the we went for a wee walk along the bike path. I have never been in that area and it really is pretty seeing Ottawa from across the river.

So far we have had ideal weather and today has been forecast more of the same. We are going to Library and Archives Canada for some genealogical research and then off to see a bit more of Ottawa.
