Sportsmen, Lowell, and Hooky!

Hey boys and girls. Happy day before Thanksgiving. As for me? Well I elected to take the day out because it's completely pointless to go to school today. Let me put it in these terms: One of my classes was canceled already, one of my classes was gonna end early, and the other one I hadn't missed at all this year. So I figured just to take it off. I know I know, I should probably not have, but dude, I'm not wasting gas on classes which will be pointless. If I actually had my Italian class and I had something worthwhile in Advertising(class I haven't missed yet), I'd go. But I don't...so I didn't.

Anyways onto the semi-important stuff. What is is Boston and Thanksgiving Day? Every year it seems like something big happens. In 03, it was Schilling. 04...err...I don't think anything. 05 was Beckett/Lowell trade. 06...okay there was nothing there. This year it's re-signing Lowell. Reading the articles and his quotes, you cannot help but come away with so much fucking respect and love for this guy.

"I enjoy Boston," he said. "My family enjoys Boston. Secondly, the Red Sox organization does everything it can to win a World Series - for my career, that's a big factor. Thirdly, before this contract I had financial security, so I like to believe that I'm not all about money.

"I feel like I'm more of a baseball player than a businessman. I kind of weighed where I felt comfortable and where I'd have the best chance to win a world championship. Plus, we just won and I played with a set of teammates that are unparalleled and the fan base is unbelievable.

"I really don't believe everything should be about money. I've had teammates in the past who have gone to other places. Sometimes they have second thoughts that they took more money elsewhere. I didn't think my happiness should be judged just by dollars."

Sometimes, this game jades you. I know that I've seen it many times before in the form of Damon signing with the Yankees mere months after saying he'd never join them, other players bolting elsewhere for more money, and so many other ordeals. It's just really refreshing to see something like this. Less money and less years for a place where his teammates are "unparalleled', where he has a chance to win it all, and where he's happy. I'm sorry but this is seriously just something that is just flat out refreshing to me.

So boys and girls as the month of November unwinds and starts spilling off into December the Sportsman of the Year will be announced on December 3rd. First off, who is your pick for Sportsman of the Year? Who do you think will actually WIN? Honestly, the more I think about it, the more I realize that it's really like pick a name out of a hat. I have a few interesting choices(as do the people on that site...I agree with Aaron though...Bacsik is an odd choice). Of course mine is biased, but fuck it. My two picks would be Jon Lester and Tim Wakefield...probably together because think about it: Jon Lester is a great fucking story for one thing. I mean let's be real here, did ANYBODY here think that Lester would be even playing ball let alone pitching in Game 4 of teh World Series? Nope. Also Wakefield was the reason he was able to get that chance to shine. Wakefield made one of THE toughest decisions anybody could make. He gave up his spot on the World Series roster because he knew he wasn't good enough to play. That gave Lester his chance and honestly, that is awesome. That's just a great story, dudes. Of course this is just me talking. :P I'm biased and odds are it'll go to someone from the Colts or someone from somewhere else.

And well...that's all I got right now.

i love baseball, red sox, linkage, newsage, boredom, mikelol, quotage, wheeee, w00ten, good times had by all, random, baseball
