Wake Ficlet: Six Torments Caesar

Feb 03, 2012 12:06

Caesar opened Rex's door in the middle of the night without warning, looking in with wide eyes and speaking in a stage whisper. "Rex--Rex, are you awake?"

It was five seconds before Rex moved with a soft groan, and another ten before he focused on his brother with sleep-glazed eyes, "Caesar? What is it...?"

Caesar pulled his head out to look around the hall before coming in and closing the door behind him, brows furrowed and eyes darting. Rex furrowed his own brows in confusion and sat up, ignoring General's little noise of annoyance, as he watched his brother's behavior. His brother was acting... off. More than usual, anyways.

"Can I sleep in your room tonight?"

"... What?" Rex just stared. "Why?"

"I think Six is going to kill me in my sleep!" Caesar spoke again in that exaggerated stage whisper, his eyes still as wide as before.

Suddenly, Rex was awake, and he sat up straighter with a jerk. "What?"

"A few mornings ago, he mentioned to me that it was very interesting that people come back from the dead here! And I think he's been stalking me ever since!" Caesar's voice went an octave higher. "He's always surprising me from behind, always smirking!"

Rex dropped his head forward and pinched the bridge of his nose. He knew immediately that Six wasn't going to kill Caesar--he would've done it already if he was going to. No, Six minus six years was just tormenting Caesar because he could. He probaby even found it funny. Scratch that, he did find it funny.

"... Rex?"

"Go back to bed, Caesar," Rex groaned. "He's not going to kill you in your sleep."

"How can you be sure? He told me to have a 'good night' tonight with that smirk! He's never done that before!" Caesar walked closer to Rex's bed and away from the door.

Rex sighed, his annoyance growing, as he finally slipped out of bed, standing and going over to his brother. "I'll talk to him. Just... go back to bed."

"But--"

"Bed, hermano," Rex gently spun his brother around and pushed him with a hand on the back of either shoulder towards the door, only stopping long enough to open the door before pushing Caesar down the hall. "I'll go talk to him."

"Now?" Caesar asked hopefully, looking over his shoulder at Rex and letting himself be pushed without resistance.

"Yes, now," Rex sighed as they reached Caesar's room. "Get back in bed, and I'll let you know when I'm done talking to him."

"Okay," Caesar's expression finally smoothed over to something more like a smile as he walked into his room. "Thanks, Rex."

"Don't mention it."

Rex closed the door behind Caesar with a little more force than necessary, then walked over briskly to Six's door. Seriously, why was he being the mature one? Six and Caesar were both adults! While tormenting Caesar was preferable to killing him, Rex was going to put an end to it. Now.

He knocked on the door to Six's room. Six probably slept through this entire thing. Rex let out one final, irritated sigh.

"Six, we need to talk."
