Samhain Altar~

Hi all, my name's Willow!! I've been watching this community for awhile but this is my first post here :)

Last Friday when I went home I couldn't wait to dig into my Halloween decorations. I had alot of fun putting out my things.  I also managed to dig up a photo f my very first Halloween altar.

Samhain 1997

I had just started walking down the Wiccan Path about a month or so before Halloween/Samhain and so didn't know about the true meaning of it quite yet. Since this setup, my altar has gone through many changes. For one thing, I no longer own most of the stuff that's on this one...I don't even own that amoir. These days my altar looks for like...

Samhain 2009

The middle section's second shelf is dedicated to my deceased family members. I have added more photos to it since I took this picture though. I have been researching my ancestry a bit this year and my grandma has given me alot of old family pictures making it possible for me to have a part of the altar with their pictures on it. I want to find a picture of my great Aunt and her husband though. They were the perfect love birds. They died within 8 days of eachother!! (Beneath the middle is a box of crafty things, my travel altar, and a few issues of Faerie magazine with a book of Celtic Myths on top of them).

Top Shelf

This is the very top of it. There are actually three ears of corn in that group but the third is hidden. Would you believe I found that Merlin at a thrift store?? He's in PERFECT condition!!! There's a squirrel (because I love them), a broom, the "snow" globe has a black cat on top of the pumpkins but you can't really tell it from here, apples, black and orange candles, raccoon is one of my totems and is a gift from my father, apples, black cat at the right. And in the front there's a green and silver pentacle box and the beads around it are some prayer beads that I made.

Left Side

Cerridwen

This is the left side of the altar. The top of the left side (the second photo) is dedicated to Cerridwen and even when the altar isn't decorated for Samhain this section is still Her section as she is one of my Matrons. It's just now, this time of year, I can actually have a cauldron there. I'd like to leave it there all year round because it's so strongly connected to Her. But living with nonpagans, ya know...I dont' know how that'd go over. I may find out though...

William Virgil Lowe Jr (Pappaw)

This is on the bottom right side. I thought I had taken a picture of the entire right side but I guess I hadn't. The top of the right side is dedicated to Bastet, my very first Matron Goddess. The bottom (what's pictured) is dedicated to my late grandfather. We were very close. The turtles he gave me one year but the other three things he carved and painted himself. I hate that the picture came out so blurry and bright. That's what I get for using a camera phone though =-P
