Disappointing couple
*Heath Ledger Best Actor 2006?! Are you kidding me?*
I finally had the chance to watch "Brokeback Mountain" yesterday night. After dinner, me and a workmate went to the cinema in the West Village (perfect place for that movie ;-).
Well, my friends, I came out very disappointed. Where the hell is the the "story"?
Let's summarize: two nice cowboylike guys having a love affair in a stunning place called Brokeback Mountain at the end of the '60s.
So WHAT?! It doesn't surprise me that a coming out wasn't the easiest choice to take in those years. I mean it IS hard nowadays too! Forget for a moment all the series with all those nice gay couples. How many people, who probably are our friends or even relatives, are having problems with dealing with their lovelife and the rest of the world?
I've heard people saying this is a touching movie. Why? We all experience the "loss" of someone we love in our lives. This is not moving, sad for sure, but this is the unpredictable and unforeseenable course of life. What's so touching in this movie? I can't really see it.
If you're looking for a real "touching" movie about homosexuality, rent "Boys don't cry" and you'll find what makes a film really "affecting".
What makes this movie so special after all? Is it because the two cowboys are so nice? Is it because they're cowboys?
What the hell is wrong with Ennis Del Mar (Heath Ledger): did he ate a sock for breakfast? I know that being Italian doesn't help, but jeezuz, I understood 10% of the things he said!
Wanna know what the movie is really worth for? The masterly use of the camera in framing scenes (we're still talking about Ang Lee, after all!) and the breathtaking location. Oh my, is Wyoming so beautiful? I don't wanna offend anyone, but after seeing these places who cares of visiting Florida or other states: let's all go to Brokeback Mountain!
I'd really like to know your impressions and comments about this movie. Sometimes sharing perspectives about cinema is more funny than watching movies!
