About two months after the breakup with he who must not be named I was out on a date with a friend from BC. We went out to this bi monthly Cabaret.

It was really nice to get out and show an old friend some of what I love about the city. Its such a wonderful city and I had started to hate it while involved with D. I have this fantastic ability where I can strike up a conversation with almost anyone. This was another aspect of me that had been squashed for the last few years and it was extremely liberating to be at this event and able to just be me.

I noticed that everyone in the row I was sitting in had basically the same hair. Long in the front and on the top, shaved sides, curly and stickyuppy to one side. I started talking to this super cute guy using our similar hair as a conversation starter. We hit it off! He was from Vancouver and he knew a lot of my friends so we decided to hang out again in the future. I asked him if he wanted to have a picnic on Toronto island at some point. He thought this was a marvelous idea.

As the picnic day was about to happen we decided to instead go to join a picnic in High Park with some mutual friends. Once we arrived at this event it became quite clear that he was there to spend time with someone else and I felt a little deflated about that. It wasn't so bad though. I met lots of lovely people and ate WAY too much food. About halfway through the picnic this lovely person arrived out of no where. He asked for some of the food I had brought and then he sat down and started drawing on himself with Henna.

Sidenote: I absolutely love the smell of Henna. Its one of those smells that just transports me to a very special place.

After about ten minutes I asked him if I could smell his hand. In retrospect it was REALLY weird to ask a stranger if I could smell his hand but, he kept coming over throughout the day to let me smell his hand. I don't know if he realized how lovely that was for me. This was a fairly groundbreaking for me. This complete stranger was being so kind to me in such a simple and thoughtful way.

After the picnic a handful of us went for a wander in the park. We climbed around on the playground and had a solid game of hide and go seek tag! It was excellent. Andrew and I spent the entire adventure talking... it was so easy to talk to him. We exchanged info and went our own ways.

The next day he asked me if I wanted to go with him to Burn night, an event where fire burning circus weirdos go and hang out in a park where its safe to burn fire. I couldn't go but I could tell that this was important to him. It was the six month anniversary of a friends death and he wanted to do something for it. I encouraged him to go and that was a turning point for him. He said that when I did that he knew he wanted to be with me. We went on a date the next day. Ramen! Delicious Ramen! This was the first Ramen I had ever had. After we wandered around till it was getting close to dark and then went to my dads house where I was living at the time. We sat on the roof and chatted about life, love, the universe, tomatoes, bbq and everything else. He asked if it was okay if he slept over. We snuggled and talked till the sun came up, but we didn't sleep together.

I could already tell I was in love with him. After knowing him for three days I knew I loved him.

Two days later he introduced me to his brothers as his girlfriend. Three months later he moved into my apartment. A month after that we got a second cat. Two winters later we went to Southeast Asia together and here we are now. Living together with our two cats in a magical nest of an apartment. I'm so glad that we met each other. This is the first time in my life that I've been treated like this.
