Drive-By Truckers
I seriously think that the Drive-By Truckers would be a mainstream band if most of their subject matter didn't revolve around a touchy issue (slavery) or just general southern stylings.
But I guess that's the world we live in: black rappers can call each other niggaz and sing about women as something that you conquer and order around but as soon as someone sings about not explicitly being against slavery, you blackball them.
I mean, it sucks that slavery happened but guess what? My folks didn't do it. They were going through their own shit in Germany and Poland at the time. Yeah, I agree you should be awarded some kind of reparations but only if you can prove that one of your ancestors was a slave. Also, same for you cracker-faces out there: if you can prove your family wasn't part of the slave trade, or a plantation owner, or something tied directly to black slavery, then you don't have to pay. Sound fair?
