Sunggyu knew who they were before he even made his way up the bleachers to his usual spot with Sunyeol. The men in suits with the burgundy ties. He could see the university’s insignia, and as he got closer, he could read the name of the school on the gold pin right above it.

He elbowed Sungyeol as they scooted into the bleachers, making him almost drop the food and drinks he was carrying.

“Sunggyu, what the hell? I mean, I know you paid for all of this, but it seems like a waste to dump it here,” Sungyeol said sarcastically, settling down on the bleachers. Sunggyu sat down and adjusted his jersey, rubbing his hands together to keep them warm. His beanie flattened his messy hair as he leaned over to Sungyeol.

“Behind us are the scouts to the university Woohyun’s been going crazy over.” Sungyeol turned his head slightly to see them talking and comparing notes with each other.

“Notes? What? The game hasn’t even started yet.” Sunggyu shrugged at Sungyeol before grabbing a nacho and munching on it.

“... Nam Woohyun... applied.... shows promise...” Sunggyu caught a few words here and there from the scouts’ discussion, but the fangirls were screaming so loudly that he couldn’t seem to catch coherent sentences, just a few words here and there.

“I think you’re more worried about them than Woohyun is. Chill out. Eat some more. You’re starting to lose your belly fat.”

“Shut up, Sungyeol.”

--

“Alright. This is our last game with our star three players.” Cheers went out as Woohyun stood up and raised his hands with a triumphant smile on his face. Dongwoo and Hoya rolled their eyes before jumping onto Woohyun and putting him in a headlock and an armlock.

“So let’s make this game a good one. It doesn’t matter if we win or lose-”

“But we better win,” Woohyun said, looking around and pointing with his free hand. Coach rolled his eyes.

“Like I said, it doesn’t matter if we win or lose, just play your best with the skill I know you have. And you know, it wouldn’t hurt if we won in the process.”

--

“Are you gonna miss us, Coach?” Woohyun asked as he threw his arm over Coach’s shoulder. They were walking down the tunnel out to the field, and as soon as the first person on the team was visible, the crowd started to roar.

“No. Good riddance. I can’t stand you guys anymore. My life expectancy dropped ten years when you three joined the team,” Coach said, pointing at Dongwoo and Hoya in front of him before casting a glance towards Woohyun.

“Come on, Coach! Don’t be that way!” Woohyun laughed before he patted Coach on the shoulder and jogged out of the tunnel after Dongwoo and Hoya. Coach watched them with a fond smile before letting out a sigh. He would miss them, but he’d never admit that out loud.

--

As soon as Woohyun cleared the tunnel, he turned around walked backwards, searching the bleachers for Sunggyu. Sunggyu said he always sat in the same place, but Woohyun swore that he moved because he could never find him right away.

Today, Woohyun found the scouts first. He saw the ties, and he would bet if he could make out the gold blob on their ties, they would be from the university. The university. He froze to his spot for a moment until he saw Sunggyu’s head pop into his line of vision with his eyebrows raised in question.

Woohyun blinked a few times before smiling and winking at Sunggyu before starting to warm up and stretch. And even while he was stretching, he didn’t forget his fangirls, because occasionally, he’d look up and wave to them with a smile, making them start screaming.

The announcements started, and the players went out on the field. Sunggyu could feel his heart beating nervously as Woohyun ran onto the field with his team.

“You can do this, you can do this,” Woohyun chanted to himself quietly. He turned his eyes back towards the bleachers to see Sunggyu and Sungyeol standing up and cheering loudly for them. Sungjong was mashed into the fangirls, screaming and holding up signs. Myungsoo noticed his name in hearts all over his sign and rolled his eyes.

And then the game started.

--

Disappointed groans rippled through the crowd as half time came. Woohyun’s team was down two points. Their team was playing well, playing better than they had been all season, but the other team was just playing better for some strange reason. Morale was low when the team came off the field for half time.

Coach watched their retreating backs going down the tunnel before turning towards the crowd. He caught eyes with Sunggyu and pointed at him, waving him down with two fingers. Sunggyu’s eyes widened before he pointed to himself to make sure.

Coach rolled his eyes again and gave him an exasperated look before shaking his head and pointing to Sungyeol, then beckoning him with one final wave of his clipboard. Sunggyu stood up, handing his food over to Sungyeol.

“Hold on, I’ll be right back. Coach wants me for some reason.”

“Mm, who wouldn’t want a piece of that?” Sungyeol said with a laugh. Sunggyu punched Sungyeol in the shoulder before making his way down the bleachers. The guard at the end of the ramp opened up the rope for him as could pass as Coach waited for him on the other side.

“You’re going to be our morale boost. Where’s your friend? I pointed at him too, didn’t I?” Sunggyu blinked and took a few steps back, waving his arms to catch Sungyeol’s attention.

“Get down here!” he yelled, waving his hands. Sungyeol blinked a few times before stuffing the rest of the food into his mouth and practically leaping down the bleachers.

They followed Coach silently down the tunnel and into the locker room where things were even more quiet.

“Alright, alright, quiet down you bunch of animals,” Coach said, earning a few weak chuckles from some of the members. Woohyun had a towel around his neck and didn’t even noticed Sunggyu and Sungyeol in the locker room until Myungsoo said something.

“What’re you two doing in here?” Woohyun looked up to see Sunggyu shrugging his shoulders and casting a glance towards Coach.

“Well, I was hoping it would be a happier occasion for this, but no time like the present, right? Like I said earlier, it’s Woohyun’s, Hoya’s, and Dongwoo’s last year here, their last game. I’d like it to end in a flawless season, and I decided that maybe you could use a little motivation.” Coach reached into a box and pulled out a jersey.

The whole locker room started cheering as he turned it around. Woohyun saw his number and the name “Namstar” written across it in complimentary colors to his own jersey.

“This is for Sunggyu. Couple jerseys. I’m not a sentimental guy or anything but... I thought it would be cute.” There were more roars of cheers echoing through the locker room as a smile broke out across Woohyun’s face.

“You’re kidding me. You said cute. You’re freaking kidding me.” Dongwoo and Hoya were whooping. They grabbed the jersey from Coach and jammed it over Sunggyu’s head. Sunggyu protested and complained as he fixed his beanie.

Woohyun made his way over to Sunggyu before glancing over his shoulder and staring at Sunggyu and narrowing his eyes.

“Did you have something to do with this?”

“I had no idea.”

“There’s one for Sungyeol too, but I figured he wouldn’t need it now since Myungsoo’s not even coming back to soccer next year.”

“You give him the jersey, and I will,” Myungsoo said from his spot with a grin.

“Done.” Coach reached into the box and tossed the jersey to Sungyeol.

--

With some renewd vigor, the team went back out again as soon as half time was over. Sunggyu and Sungyeol sat a little bit closer to the front now, right behind the fangirls. They squealed with joy when they saw the jerseys that they were wearing.

Sunggyu got that nervous feeling in the pit of his stomach again, and suddenly remembered words that his dad gave him once before he performed for their school of fifteen kids.

You know that nervous feeling in the pit of your stomach? It means you’re about to do something great and amazing, or you’re watching someone that’s going to go places in life. Don’t forget it. It’s okay to be nervous.

“Go Woohyun!” Sunggyu shouted behind the fangirls. Woohyun turned to look over his shoulder with a grin. The nervous feeling welled up again, and Sunggyu smiled. He was definitely going somewhere in life.

--

There were two minutes left in the game, and the scored was tied. Woohyun was busy shouting things to his team, making up a last minute play. They were in possession of the ball, and just needed to get it in the net.

Sunggyu was at the edge of the seat when the whistle blew again. Woohyun ran, flanked by Dongwoo and Hoya. Myungsoo stayed near the back, keeping an eye out for the opposing team.

He had a clear shot. He had a shot.

“Shoot, Woohyun, shoot!” Sunggyu yelled, almost shoving a fangirl in front of him. Everyone seemed to hold their breath and Woohyun shot the ball. They watched it move, almost in slow motion. And when the goalie dived for the ball, a collective gasp echoed through the crowd.

His fingertips grazed the ball, but it wasn’t enough to stop the ball.

The crowd erupted into cheers. Woohyun fell to his knees and yelled in triumph as his team rushed the field and piled on top of him. They won. Sungyeol was jumping up and down, screaming like a mad man.

Woohyun managed to pull himself out of the pile and ran to the sideline, completely out of breath. He pointed at Sunggyu and called him down. Woohyun’s eyes never left as Sunggyu hurried down. They hugged each other on the field, Sunggyu not even caring about how sweaty and gross Woohyun was.

Out of the corner of Sunggyu’s eye, he noticed the scouts making their final notes and nodding before shaking hands.

--

The celebrations the next day were extraordinary. Sunggyu and Woohyun walked the halls hand in hand with their matching jerseys. Sungyeol refused to wear his because he thought it was tacky, and only for lovey dovey couples like Woohyun and Sunggyu.

--

Several gigantic envelopes came in the mail for Sunggyu. He was staring at them on the table one Saturday morning when Woohyun came over.

“What’re these?”

“Letters from all the schools I applied to.” Two of the three schools’ envelopes looked menacing, but at that size, they were all likely to be acceptance letters. The one that Sunggyu wanted to go to was a small envelope.

Woohyun pulled out a chair and sat down next to Sunggyu.

“Well, open them.” Sunggyu sighed and reached out for the one on the left first.

“This one is to the school that’s pretty close to here.” He opened it up and saw the fancy little acceptance letter with a packet of information.

“Accepted.” He shoved the letter away and opened the other big one. The contents were pretty much the same.

“Accepted.” Sunggyu shoved it away too and reached for the small envelope with trembling hands. He opened it up as Woohyun leaned forward. There was a letter and a guitar pick on the inside.

“To Mr. Kim Sunggyu. We figured you didn’t need a fancy acceptance letter, so take this guitar pick instead. Welcome to our school.” Sunggyu closed his eyes as he felt his heart stop beating. Woohyun grinned and grabbed the letter from him, laughing as he read it over again.

“This school sounds awesome already.”

“I think I’m about to have a heart attack and die,” Sunggyu said, reaching for his letter again. There was some more text about how they would send the rest of his information later, including his dorm number and his ID.

“I’m proud of you,” Woohyun said, leaning over and kissing Sunggyu. “I knew you’d get in.”

Sunggyu sighed and rested his head on Woohyun’s shoulder. “This means we’re separating for real, aren’t we?” Woohyun sighed. He still hadn’t heard back from his school yet, and was considering other options, just in case.

“Yeah. But it’ll be okay. We can do this, right? Long distance relationships and stuff... But damn I’m going to miss seeing you every day.”

--

Sunggyu woke up one morning to someone screaming his name as the front door slammed open. He didn’t even have time to get his eyes open all the way when his bedroom door slammed open and his light turned on.

“Sunggyu! Sunggyu! I got in! I GOT IN!” Woohyun yelled, jumping onto his bed and bouncing on it. Sunggyu laughed as Woohyun grabbed his shoulders and shook him, his letter crinkling in his hands.

“Okay, okay, hold on, calm down. Where are my glasses?” Woohyun scrambled over him and handed him his glasses before giving him the letter to read. Sunggyu blinked sleepily a few times before letting his eyes scan over the letter.

“God, Woohyun. I’m so proud of you.”

“I can’t freaking believe it!” Woohyun yelled with joy, wrapping his arms around Sunggyu, making the both of them fall over onto the bed. Sungyeol appeared in the bedroom and hopped on top of them, hugging them both with closed eyes.

“Congratulations, Woohyun. You’re finally getting out of my life, and I get Sunggyu all to myself.”

“Shut up, and don’t ruin my moment.”

--

“We got our acceptance letters too. We’re headed off to this arts academy an hour away from here. Our blood, sweat, and tears went into that audition,” Hoya said as they all gathered in the living room. Break was coming up, leaving the time they all had together very short.

“That’s amazing. Never pegged you guys as dancers,” Sungyeol said, taking a sip of his hot chocolate.

“Dongwoo’s got some hips on him. You should see him in drag.” The room collectively made a gagging noise as Dongwoo flushed red.

“Hoya. Shut. Up.”

--

“This is probably one of the last few times that we’re all going to be hanging out before we get on with our lives, huh?” Sunggyu asked as he and Woohyun cuddled on the couch. Dongwoo and Hoya were asleep on the floor, and Myungsoo and Sungyeol were in Sungyeol’s room.

Woohyun stared into the small fireplace before placing his arms around Sunggyu’s waist.

“Let’s make these last few months last then.”

“You know what they say though. Time flies when you want it to stay.”
