Almost 25,000 people in Western Canada evacuated as wildfires rage across region amid hot weather and high winds

The fires have burned 121,909 hectares - roughly more than 301,000 acres - and since Friday, at least 45 new wildfires have started and 14 local states of emergency issued, according to Premier Danielle Smith.

As of 7 p.m. Saturday, Alberta Wildfire lists 110 wildfires burning in the province - 32 of them out of control while 22
are being held and 56 are under control. Mandatory evacuations have affected 24,511 people living throughout northern
and central Alberta, including Yellowhead County, Grande Prairie County and First Nation communities like Sturgeon
Lake Cree Nation and Little Red River Cree Nation, pretty much the whole western side of the province all the way to Banff.

Teare Creek wildfire, which the B.C. Wildfire Service says is burning in steep, challenging terrain. Three separate out-of-control
wildfires burning near the boundary between British Columbia and Alberta, including two in the Peace River region, have
prompted evacuation orders and an alert.

The burn at Compound Meadows, near the town of Banff, spread outside of the predetermined boundary around 4 p.m. after an
unexpected shift in wind direction and speed. In a Thursday morning update shared to social media, Banff National Park said
the Compound Meadows fire is still classified as "being held" at three hectares in size.
