The Bell Jar ~ The Writing of Sylvia Plath, a critical slant

The Wrath of Plath ~ I have cited the following poem to the memory of Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes...

Freda Hughes used to accuse
the film of "playing with its
little Sylvia suicide doll ~ psp

The Wrath of Plath ~ Luke 12:26-07

How could you be so angry about,
Him, the king of poetry ! ?
. . . about whom they once said,
"I love your voice!" but you heard,
"What about the words?"
to which there was no reply ~
only uncomfortable smiles,
not having the advantages
of higher learning; Knowing
all those hidden meanings
with no idea how she feels
chasing down poems, in between
homes and meals, baking perfect cakes
and raising your kids...
If you could read my thoughts,
your words would conjure up ~ hope
You could tell I'm a ghost,
I'm not a-wishing well...
Mama says, "Put your head in the oven
and you'll get a man!"

Sylvia ~ the movie

.

Sylvia Plath is well cast as Gwyneth Paltrow

"The Hughes family refused to give permission for any of Plath's poems to be used.
Freda Hughes accused the film of "playing with its little Sylvia suicide doll".

Sylvia ~ The Roles of Gender in Art
I think it tragic and sad that Sylvia felt like many women of the period did, that her creative spirit lived in the shadow of her commanding husband. Saddled with kids, she was a woman of many colours. Although Hughes was studied and profound, I found that Sylvia spoke miles of feelings around him, but would she have been that without Him, whom she must obey? Both had command of the language, but one simply found how to transcend it.
