Brasil/Rio in my eyes: Part II

- Where the heck did the brazilian wax come from? There is no way it came from here. The women here grow out their leg and bikini line hair and then go to the beach and bleach it blond in the sun with this sticky stuff they spread all over. Its pretty sick.

- If you ever go to Brasil here is a good rule to go by: If the garbage can next to the toilet has a lid then it usually means the toilet can't handle toilet paper and you shouldn't flush it down. If it does not have a lid then you can probably go ahead and flush your toilet paper. Luckily enough for me all of the toilets in my house can handle toilet paper! YAY!

- It is very socially acceptable to make-out in public in Rio.

- This is a VERY caffeinated society. They like coffee a lot and all of their pop contains caffeine. Sprite is the only decaffeinated soda we have been able to find here. And they do not sell decaffeinated coffee or tea (chai) in the grocery stores. Ten years from now when studies come out saying that caffeine is the next cigarettes, Brasil will realize where a ton of their health problems come from. Their most popular soda pop is Guarana which is made from the Guarana fruit from the Amazon and is sort of like a different kind of coffee bean, only its a fruit. It is WAY caffeinated and pretty bad for you. My little brother and sister live off of this stuff.

- It will make you sick to drink tap water here. If you are craving some water, you should stick to the bottled agua com gas (carbonated water) or agua sem gas.

- There is no square cereal here. All of my favorite types of cereal are square. Sigh. Anything that has to be processed or made in a large factory is expensive or non-existant here. Peanut butter is like $10 for a little jar, if the grocery store has it all. M&Ms are like $2 for a little bag and they are usually pretty old. Plastic is expensive. Canned food is expensive. They don't have poptarts here either.

- Brasilians get way into the world cup (the big soccer tournament where all the countries play eachother). When Brasil is playing a World Cup game you can go out and lay down on most of the big roads and take a nap because everyone is inside watching the game. You wont need to ask later who won, you will be able to tell by the positive or negative cheering coming from the houses and apartments everywhere. Everyone wears brasil shirts and they send off firecrackers and do all kinds of noise makers. It is really loud. You can tell it is a world cup day when your neighborhood is unusually loud. Brasil really gets into it.

- It is not polite to use a toothpick here without covering your mouth. It is not polite to pick up your food. Brasilians eat with both their fork and knife. Its pretty tricky. Its totally ok to stop and pee on any tree or bush or pole almost anywhere here... if you are a man. You will see random people on the side of the road in the middle of rush-hour traffic just peeing on a pole. WEIRD.

Good times...
