It's Been a Long...Long...Long Time...

Hey Livejournal! How ya doin'? Didja miss me?

Yeah, I think it's been AT LEAST nine months since my last post here...I've been pretty active on FaceBook but, as many other folks have said, it's just not the same as LJ...So I'm back...

Well, anyways...Um...I'm not going to go into the personal stuff here...
Suffice to say, I'm doing fine, living with Roo, and I may have found a six month I.T. contract job that starts next week and will save my butt...Last few months have been crunchy, but survivable...

But that's not what I came here to talk to you about...

I've actually found myself with a plethora of musical projects, and I'm having difficulty trying to keep them all straight...

So - Livejournal to the rescue! Hence, here is a list of music projects I've gotten involved in over the last few months:

* Solo (acoustic guitar) - Back during the holiday season, I was actually doing solo gigs, playing Xmas music; something I'd never done before...I hate to say it, but it made me feel more professional, learning all those tunes...I'd like to do more acoustic shows; I'm planning on recording an acoustic album - Hopefully start working on that in the late spring...

* Solo (electric guitar looping/laptop) - Finished my solo album "Salieri's Revenge" in January, which contains much of my guitar looping work, but I haven't had a chance to plan a CD Release party yet...All in the due time...Did one electric show a few weeks ago; very small attendance but it was a good trial run for later shows...

* Orkestar Bez Ime (OBI - guitar, mandolin, percussion) - One of the best bands I've ever been involved with - Balkan/Eastern European/Gypsy music...Also finished a CD with them back in July...Fantastic musicians and great material to work with...We're in the running for a McKnight Fellowship award, so hopefully we get to the finalist stage...Gigs have been really fantastic as of late, though we may be taking breaks over the next few months...Stay tuned...

* Little Tin Box (keyboards) - Downtempo electronica, with beautiful vocals by Kelly Sadler...I played with them very briefly ten years ago, and last week, had a chance to play with them again, opening up for Conjure One at Ground Zero...It was a really great show, and I hope I can play with them again in the future...

* Midnight Mo (keyboards) - 70s Soul/Motown/Funk...I was going to quit this band cuz I had no time, but they're such good friends and the gigs are so much fun, that I can't help but keep saying yes...Gigging about once every couple months...

* Actor's Theatre - Bye Bye Liver/Flanagan's Wake (understudy for Music Director) - I've been working BBL since last August, as a favor to Chad (from the Dregs) who is their Music Director...I've come to respect the talents of the casts that have come through...Flanagan's Wake started a few weeks ago, and also they're a fantastically talented cast too...I sub for Chad about once or twice a month...

* Ethnic Dance Theatre (bouzouki, guitar, keyboards) - I've been brought on for an EDT show they are doing called "Then & Now" which combines traditional folk music, ranging from Bulgarian, Persian & Scandanavian, with modern renditions...I get to play bouzouki as well as run beats underneath some of the "Now" songs...Show isn't until May, so I have some time to practice...

* "The Curse of Yig" (film composer) - This project took up most of February...I have yet to see the finished product but I'm VERY proud of the score that I composed...and I can't wait to see how the score fits in with the finished film...Also, worked on some cue music for Transylvania Television around this time as well...

* Pirates of Dreamtime - There is a possibility of a reunion of sorts in the near future...Hold onto your seats...Prepare to be boarded...

* And then Machinery Hill asked me to join up with them, after jamming with them last week on piano...I had to decline (and not without some chagrin on my part)...though I did say that I would be up for joining them onstage anytime if I was available...

*whew*...That seems like a LOT of activity going on...Given that not all of these projects are concurrent, it's not so bad...However, this past week, a few of them WERE concurrent...which has prompted me to reconsider my future plans...We shall see...More to come...

Hey, LJ - It's good to be back...
