Round, and around goes Mister Lyle's existence - the track was inspired in part by Timothy Leary and co's theories about Ego Death, which is a perceived loss of boundaries between self and environment, something that Lyle must battle with on a daily basis. That, and he's one trippy camper, just like the menacing tape loops that make up the majority of this song.

Smooth, calm and collected - with a crackling underbelly that puts Lyle firmly into the grasp of crazy. Once, probably, so filled with hope and promise and this and that - then he had to kill his best friend and frame his father in order to get his claws into the empire that really belonged to him. Such a nice boy.

Nasty, malevolent and Machiavellian; like a puppet master who's not entirely sure how to pull the strings. Even in the darkest days of bandaged hands and kidnapping Pretenders, Lyle still had the idea he was the controller of his own destiny - even if, even when things were looking up, he never was.

Once upon a time, a boy named Bobby turned into a man named Lyle; painting pictures of a future where he was the master of his own domain, where he was understood and welcomed for the screw-loose brain he seemed to inherited from Dad. Too bad that all turned pear-shaped, and Daddy turned out to be just as fucked up as he was.
