This last week I've been alternating my anime schedule with eps of Gundam and Gakkou no Kaiden between new season shows. I find that literally alternating is pretty helpful with preventing stalling out on the series. The rapid pace and serial development of latter Gundam eps and the slow, episodic nature of GnK actually complement each other (enough). It is interesting going from Amuro slaughtering dozens of enemies to little kids running away from ghosts. Saying "between new season shows" is somewhat inaccurate though. I've fallen behind on Umineko and CANAAN and I'm not when or if I'll pick them back up. Spice and Wolf II has been fun, and Yoku Wakaru Gendai Mahou has been fanservicey, and somehow those took precedence.
Bookwise, I've been disappointed that I couldn't find Julie Czerneda's Rift in the Sky in any local stores. I hope they remember the majority of books are still sold (and advertised) at brick-and-mortar stores and a great way to not sell is to not have it available at those stores. Michelle Sagara has a new Cast book out. I'm not very far into it yet, but this one seems like it'll focus on either humans, the fiefs, or Arcanists. Unfortunately, the pitfalls of series are making themselves felt here. Jokes are growing old, the strange has become routine, and many of the series conflicts are losing their sense of importance (and urgency). Still, it's been interesting so far. As long as the author can continue developing the overall plot each book, I'll probably continue to read.
The (scholastic) summer is ending soon. I'd say "only a little more time for parties," but honestly I'll be looking forward to the end.
