Especially with emergency room doctors, they need to attain new information many times because the patient is not known to them. They need to get information in order to make an accurate diagnosis.
A patient most likely will need extra testing to be done to help doctors come up with the best treatments. A patient will be wheeled from one department to the next, and letting the patient know what is going on helps them feel more comfortable about everything. If they can eat, they can be told where the cafeteria is and where the gift shop is.
Going to the hospital can be confusing because there are so many things that need to be done that may not be familiar to the patient.
