2 Corinthians 8:1-9:15

Chapters 8 and 9 of 2 Corinthians talk about giving. However, I found it interesting that my devotion book pointed out that Paul never mentions the word money in these two chapters. He talks about sharing, service, offering, grace, and gift, but not money. This shows that the nature of giving is about more than just how much money we can/should give. I think this is something that our society has a hard time seeing. So often we can't get past the money part of giving. We try to take control of our money, (instead of trusting God and putting Him in control) and this is where trouble starts. Now I could really get on my soapbox on the evils of money...but I'll spare you and leave you with these verses instead...

"For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich" (vs. 8:9)

"Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." (vs. 9:7)

"This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of God's people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God." (vs. 9:12)
