As someone who is about to go see her grandmother in her assisted living facility, and who just had a kid, that entry sure spoke to me... What a hard situation. That thing with your uncle sounds really hard. We had to move my grandmother into assisted living a while ago, and she really hated it at first, but she's much happier now and it was such a good decision. I think it's really great when strangers can help with things like dementia and paranoia- it's impossible for them to take it personally, and it's impossible for anyone else not to! It's hard. Really hard. You're not a bad granddaughter.
But also? Babies are WAY easier- it's similar in theory, but although you'd think you'd feel as resentful and burdened, there's a better trajectory- the baby is getting smarter, faster, & cuter, every three minutes as they're trying to blow up the house, and the elderly person is, well, not. I'm convinced that Mr. Peachyface's mission is to poison or concuss himself and that my mission is to stop him doing it, but I swear to God I'm having a great time. I bet you will too, especially after the massive adjustment in the first few weeks.
