Rough dystopia draft

Apr 22, 2023 21:16

Well here we go I guess.

I sometimes write about my dreams that seem to predict things. However it could just simply be that we all have those dreams. It's just a matter of time until that stuff actually happens coincidentally. A long time ago I wrote on a now defunct journaling site in 2011, I dreamt I was shot in a movie theater. Yeah, that was some weird shit. Now of course, it was all very vague but it was terrifying beyond belief.

I dreamt I was shot in the stomach from maybe 20' away, I fell to my knees and instantly my vision started going black. I should really call it a nightmare, because it's nothing I'd call a dream. But either way dreams are just the technical term for brain activity when sleeping. Anywho, much like my dreams about a post apocalypse USA, I recently had a dream that seemed very plausible and agrees well with my idea of what's realistic.

And by that I mean, it seems as though it is a sad future event that is unfortunately well within the realm of possibility. Because of course, only humans would go for a ridiculous solution to a problem like what I am about to tell you.

I will fill in information into this, since when we dream we have thoughts and actions we take as though we were awake.

It is the future, many years ahead of the time I write in now. I am watching tv on my old near antique RCA 13" CRT. The news pops on with an aerial drone picture. On the screen is a scene of mass chaos. I can't fucking believe what I'm seeing but it explains a horrible smell that has been wafting in the air outside for a few minutes. It burned my eyes and made my nose and throat feel sore.

"Breaking news, SNA (Sanitation and Natural Applications) has recently had a massive failure of one of their mass waste transport systems. It is said that an suspected electrical malfuntion has caused a motor in one of their Behemoth Disposal tanks to dump uncontrolled.

Around 16:43 the Santitation Salvation train Arfenta Simnullini, was stopped on their proprietary railline as systems in their control cab indicated a possible error condition in one of the Behemoth Disposal transport tanks. The stop just happened to have the tank involved in position on a long stretch of the Sky Savior Bridge, one of many made specifically for the Sanitation giant's railline."

Let's take a break from the story here to show you what the world looks like in 2048. The population of the US is effectively more than two times what it is in your time. Cities that were once metropolis' now, are the "innercities". Traffic jams are near constant, air quality is very poor. Country and farmland are some of the last true nature that stretch beyond cities. Hunger plauges us all. We all joke about how soylent green is about to be released.

Natural parks were tapped and redeveloped in the year 2039, under the Impending World Emergency to Humanity act in which anything we preserved was now fair game to be used to sustain humanity until another avenue could be used and someday the preserves and natural parks would be restored. Years later, I still think of what we all took for granted when I pay to watch home videos of natural parks that used to be free to watch on Youtube but it has since become a subscription/ala carte streaming service.

Jobs are everywhere and people are desperate to have them. For a while Sanitation Salvation offered people higher than normal paying jobs, about $6 per hour to dive into sewers and manually unclog them as at the time the sewers were nearing their limits due to never being updated and having more use thrown at them. A lot of the "Sanitation Heroes" died on the job from drownings due to suit malfunctions or died from fatal untreatable gram negative infections and usually their families were paid undisclosed amounts of money to keep from pressing class action lawsuits. Those employees of the company's first years were honored by having their names assigned to trains and dumping locations.

Sanitation Salvation later developed high pressure vaccuum sewer redesigns that would no longer use the collapsing and now permanently clogged utlities. They would route to SS's mass collection points. There tanks would be filled and transported daily to areas where dropoffs or cliffs existed as all waste would be dumped and these areas were so remote and inhospitable, no one would know, or even care. Developments could not exist there anyhow.

Sanitation Salvation, what the fuck kind of a name right? But they introduced solutions that beat the hell out of taking a shit in a bag or pissing in a bucket to throw out of the window. The trains were beautiful, Sky Blue engines fifteen-thousand horsepower high torque engines that ran on heavy fuel on high bridges so as not to stick out too much. Aside from their scrubbered smoke plumes But eventually their dump tankers did develop residual orange running stains on their dump side.

Not that it mattered, it was the future. And nothing looked good. Even cars were no longer being manufactured. All cars that are on the road now were re-developed. They ran on Waste Oils and were all relatively old as shit. Since the year 2030, all electronic system dependent cars were outlawed due to their use of copper and expensive cost to build and maintain for any average person. They were forcibly possesed by the governement and stripped, the owners were given money that was adjusted for depreciation of the vehicle.

Most of these cars, year 2000 and older, were very expensive due to their easier to maintain engines, and ability to be run into the ground many times over. No surprise, many japanese made cars were able to reach the lengths and abuse the future so generously offered.

There were no longer rich people as you would think of today. Sure, they existed. But you didn't hear about them or see them. They were rumored to live in the far reaches of the world that had somewhat self-sustained communities where they reaped what the mass poor sewed. These rich people feared the mass poor. They lived in communities that looked like what a decent neighborhood would look like today but tucked away hundreds of miles away from places no one would ever be able to even afford to visit.

They lived like regular people do in your time. They still held onto a basic standard of surviving. However, these were all rumors. Maybe the rich didn't even exist and served as a way to keep the poor moving and not destined to repeat the "Great Quitting" such as in 2028 which threw the world into two years of absolute chaos. In that time martial law ruled, many people died (counts were in the hundreds of thousands in the US alone), but most died from starvation, murders, illness, and all other horrible ways to die in the lands that lost their sight from;law, order, and any higher being now unknown to mankind.

During these years, all taxes were suspended, public transit was overwhelmed, jobs literally took everyone and anyone, and... fuck. You thought the coronavirus pandemic in 2020 fucked things up? We had it easy back then. This shit was absolute terror.

I survived; three break ins, one stabbing, I had been shot in my leg, been beaten unconscious once just for my three UniversalCoin LTD currency, which in the time you're reading this is equivalent to 25¢. And that was when I worked for an ice cream bar. I saw many horrific acts of humanity at its worst. I went hungry, I went without employment for days at a time. I didn't want to devolve into a heartless monster driven by his stomach and greed. I tried to hold onto my humanity. A lot of my family didn't live through those two years.

I hope I'm making it clear that the world as a whole is a shitty place to live in. Not that there are other options. Space X and Blue Origin made colonies on the moon and Mars, but they all died off. A reason was never revealed. And this was after the "Martian Revelations" that the colonies didn't just seek to "...live quietly in a newfound Eden." They all died. But not one fucking reason given why.

Back to our news flash.

Video of cars all strewn across a 16 lane highway. Zoom shots of some people wading in black water trying to wade though toilet paper, diapers, feces, feminine hygeine products. Some people are floating in the so-called-water, they appear twisted and deformed by the force of the water that came crashing down from above.

Due to the Standards of Reporting of Reality act in 2025 the dead were allowed to broadcast with no consent of their family or estate required. Death was normalized. People were living shorter lives as the years were going by. People also loved social media and for their presence to live on in any way possible. Even if it was a man's mangled broken body smashed into a car's hood from the force of hideous tidal wave of waste.

We at first want to think it was a miracle any of them survived the fallout. But you then remember they were going to face lifelong battles with terminal infections, and injuries that would never be properly treated since the healthcare system had permamnently collapsed in 2031. It was to be rebuilt, but that money kept getting reinvested toward the 2032 Standards for Infrastructure Program. It was essentially a bill that would roughly reinforce decrepit buildings that no longer could be properly repaired.

Humanity that day was showered in essentially its own shit. Our inability to react or care led to this. The temperatures that day were 89°F, it was a relatively cool January. The air was acrid, rancid, and all I could think of was how am I going to eat my air fried rat with all of this stink in the air.

Ok, wow, fuck this was dark. Maybe the future won't be so fucked up. At least I hope.
