I've got it. I finally understand.

The thing that makes a book, or a show, or whatev. for kids or not for kids is how they treat their audience.

Look around. Look at Avatar - it's aimed at kiddies, but nowhere do they adopt overtly explanatory dialogue. Look at Full Metal Alchemist - wildly popular, and it's because the audience isn't handed ( Read more... )
