Websites galore. Sleep? Not so much.

On Sunday last week I realised I had a total of 7 days to get the church website up - I wanted it live before our Songs of Praise was broadcast.  I've been working towards this since September last year. A lot of this has been because of other things, as much because I've been ill, and not a little because I've been waiting for other things to happen. On the Saturday I had finally finished the notes from the Festival meeting at the beginning of the week, Sunday and Monday were used to finish the subsequent website updates. Monday and Tuesday I started talking to the relevant treasurer in whose name the church domain is held.  While he gave me as much as he had, by Thursday I had given up on Tiscali providing useful answers in a hurry and registered a new (similar) domain on one.com (well recommended if you are serious about your website).  I downloaded and installed the latest version of Wordpress but... it was showing on the site.  Just before I went off to work, it became live and I spent 30 minutes activating WP and copying the files across from the test version.  Friday afternoon was quiet enough - just - that I could find and mail all the websites which mentioned either of the churches.

I am told that some of these sites - the Methodist district pages for instance - had updated by that evening. Awesome. Most of them were done by Saturday, as was I.  I tried adding a few pages, but not particularly well. It was announced in church on the Sunday, we had our first proper response post by Monday. Unfortunately I was pretty out of it until yesterday.  I think all the adrenalin I used to get it all up and running was still looking around my system, and I wasn't sleeping properly. I was glad that the vampire was next week not this - although unfortunately concentrating on other things left me on autopilot until I got there and found nobody else!  Then on Monday I was persuaded to go the Redland May fair, an event whose popularity I have to conclude is a tribute to the English passion for shopping, although admitedly its also a convenient way for parents to let their children out of the house in a mostly safe environment. Luckily I largely managed to turn my brain off which was very helpful towards recovery.

I managed to have a long sleep in this morning after a bit of early morning physio, which is why I could spend snatched moments of this afternoon taking screenshots from BBC iPlayer and posting a news item about Songs of Praise. It actually looks really good and Wordpress made it really easy. It also means I can take the meagre "About" page off the front.

I still have various pages I am trying to assemble for the site, but at the same time I'm actually trying to recover enough to carry on with my Masters research. As I said recently - pushing myself has consequences, which is what I have been suffering this week (basically I've done nothing much useful until today).

So, the Church of Westbury Park website.
