My father and I have just agreed on political discussion. I'm still in shock. The agreement was on mandatory, strict national laws on recycling and alternate energy. Normally, we don't agree on much. (Gay marriage is not a topic anyone should start around us.)
I'm rather predictable in my beliefs. Someone throwing a bottle away in my school (which only offers paper recycling) makes me flinch--I take all my bottles home, even if I have to carry them all day. I keep lights and air conditioning/heat off as much as possible. I take cold showers (though my occasional bath might as well cancel that out.)
My dad, on the other hand, is not someone you would see as an environmentalist. And truly, I don't think he is. My dad hates waste--waste of energy and materials being the big ones but my laziness gets him annoyed too--and he does not find the avoidance of change because of fear of cost and convenience to bepractical. He's a handyman; he knows certain green changes would improve houses and energy bills.
Even thinking about his reasons still confuses me. Normally politics end up with us at each others' throats. Maybe I should go weed (the chore my dad is most insistent that I do)...
