Not going to see HBP

Jul 03, 2009 15:30

I've decided I am not going to go to HBP when it hits the theatres this month. Perhaps it's petty, and perhaps my gesture means nothing, but I am pissed the hell off still that the studio opted to shelve the finished movie for eight months just because they thought they could squeeze a few more dollars out of the summer box office. The hell with ( Read more... )

I'll be waiting for the DVD myself (unless someone takes me to the movie which is tres unlikely). It's not in the spirit of protest, but you can count me anyway.

The movies don't mean that much to me. I stood in line for hours for a book, but I'm content to wait for the movies. HBP was my least favorite of the books anyhow, so I'm not gagging to see it.

Just yesterday I was thinking that the movies kept a sense of newness in the Potterfan-verse. And, I was wondering if things would change after the last DVD of the last movie is out.

Have you read any of the books about HP fandom? I was thinking of buying "Harry...a History". Have you read it? If so, what did you think? I slash R/S, so I was hoping there was a book somewhere that respected that POV, or at least analyzed it well. The heat is making me meander a bit, sorry

I haven't read Harry: A History yet, but it is on my wishlist. I think once the movies are done, a lot of the younger folks or folks with short attention spans will wander away from the fandom, leaving a core of more serious fans to carry on. I think it will be quieter, with a lowe4r quantity, but perhaps a better quality, of fanfic.

Honestly, I won't be seeing HBP in the theatres, but not for any protest reason. I don't have any friends that are into HP, and I'm not going by myself. Plus, the only one of the movies that I really liked enough to say its a great movie was GOF, so I'm not expecting to love this one. All in all, I'm kinda meh about the movies.

I thought they pushed it back so as not to conflict with Twilight?

I thought is was pushed back because Daniel Radcliffe was in Equis around the time of the original release date. I think the movies have higher grosses in the fall releases anyway, so it would be weird to push it to summer.

Well, I do agree with your reasoning, but it wont be why I'm not going to see it in the theatre. I can't really afford the train ticket down to the town and then the movie ticket price to SEE it in the theatre. I didn't see OOTP in the cinema either (and to be frank, how it all ends as well as the whole CAPSLOCKHARRY that goes through the whole damned book, has put me off seeing it even on DVD) and that was because I didn't live in a town with a cinema at that point either, and had to catch a bus up and back as well. For me it's more financial reasons, and I tell you - had they released it when it was supposed to come out last November, I would have been able to see it because I would have been more financially able. So they can take THAT statistic and shove it.
