Before I launch headfirst into NaNo for the next hour or so (gonna shoot for 45k today!), I wanted to make a post honoring all the things I'm thankful for.
I can't remember if I've ever done a post like this without treating it as a joke. My family doesn't really observe traditions. It's always about a lot of food or a lot of presents, rarely about showing gratitude for the things we're lucky to have, so I'm gonna shake things up a bit.
I'm thankful for my family, even if they drive me up a wall sometimes. I'm glad that they are as wise as they are funny, and so loving and supportive when life throws me a curve ball and I don't know how to handle it myself. And though we may fight a lot, we always make it a point to apologize and talk through our problems.
I'm thankful to my friends who are as close as family, who have helped me through almost every crisis I didn't believe my family could. They've kept me from completely losing my mind and have built up my self-worth to nearly ten times what it used to be. They make me laugh when I feel like crying and let me cry when I absolutely need to, and without judgment.
I'm thankful that I have my own room I can escape into when the outside world becomes too much; that I have a kitty I can snuggle up with; that I have my own car in which I can blast my favorite CDs; that I have some modicum of writing talent I can hopefully parlay into a career one day; and so much more. I have a roof over my head, food in the fridge and a warm place to sleep at night. There are many things that could use improvement, sure, but for now I'm happy.
