My town has a community concert band. Everyone shows up with whatever instrument at whatever skill level, and we sightread a bunch of show tunes/movie adaptations/marches, and everyone has a grand old time.
Besides the fact that I have a lot of fun doing this, it's also helping me determine just where my playing/stamina is, and helps keep it in shape throughout the summer.
Right now I'm behind. Of course. I didn't expect anything different. I always need to remind myself that my ceiling is a lot higher than what I'm pushing at right now, and I'm lucky enough to have a lot of different feedback in different settings. These things help me realize what I can do better, because that's always my main goal.
I like what I'm doing right now, but I want to do it better. Plain and simple.
I got about 8 hours of overtime last week. Sweet. I'm a little surprised that I've gone this long (a summer and a half now) at this job and I still haven't gotten fed up with it. It saves some trouble getting another job, that's for sure.
I am looking forward to returning to Michigan much more than I was last year, though.
Rock on.
