Cross-Country Interval Workout

Nov 02, 2005 22:53

During cross-country practice today, we did an interval workout. (Also known as a "tempo" workout.) I decided tonight that I'll let anyone who feels like learning about it in on how these workouts go about happening.

Introduction:First off, they are very strenuous, and test your willingness to give your full participation for the sport. It gives ( Read more... )

It sucks that your coach seems like an airhead; I guess we're kind of lucky that our coach is REALLY good--he knows exactly what he's doing and no one questions him. Did I ever tell you about some of his achievements? He could run a 4:08 mile time and 8:48 2-mile race. That is FREAKING insanely fast. He also said he could run 10 miles in 48 minutes. Yeah.

As my friend down there said in another comment, today was the last practice of the season for me. Varsity will still practice for two more weeks, as the state meet is like, in two weeks or something. Where do you live, anyway?

It's so funny, because sometimes I REALLY like running and stuff, because it's such a good workout and it benefits you so, but then other times I dislike it. Although, now I'm glad that I did those tempo workouts pretty well. They will hopefully be worth-while in the end.

Varsity boys (and girls) all run 5Ks at the meets later in the season. The first two or three races is two miles for everyone, and then (later in the season) they start the 5K races, but still 2.0 - 2.1 mile races for Frosh/soph/JV.

Our team is decent -- 25-30 people, and we're all goofballs. I just took about two-hundred pictures at a party we had tonight. Kind of a pre-race party or something, cuz our BVAL (bay valley athletic league) championships are tomorrow. However, there are some teams, like Pittsburg High (a few cities away) which has 75 people on their team. It's kind of crazy.

Oh, cause today (thursday) was my last day of practice, since tomorrow those who are going to state (WHICH SHOULD BE ME - and will be explained in my next entry or two) are leaving at 2 PM tomorrow and they'll just run on the course for practice friday, then saturday is state and after that everyone will be done.

Yeah, I remember something about your coach, some of these people are just insane!

I agree with the changing mood towards running, some days when I'm really tired I dread it. But now that I am officially done today and I'm a senior, I look back and realize how much fun it was and how much I'm really going to miss it.

I'm in South Carolina. We're in 3A which is something like 800-1200 students. It's odd to me, because I believe we have 1193 at school right now, I don't think we'd go to 4A, so maybe I'm off on the exact count.

25-30 is about the size of our boys and girls team...haha, we had a lot quit this year. I cannot take quitters. Haha..
