Okay. So. The Last Airbender. Due to certain entries of my f-list, I remembered it was coming out this year and went to look up the trailers.
No, I'm not happy with the white-washing of the cast. No, I'm not happy with what they did to the Fire Nation either. Or with whatever the hell it is they turned Iroh into. I'm especially displeased with them removing Sokka's sense of humor, as that's one of the things I love him for. I ALREADY KNOW THERE'S A LOT OF THINGS I WON'T LIKE ABOUT THIS MOVIE.
But guys? I still want to see it. If I refused to see any of the kinds of movies I like to go to just because of how much they fucked up in making it, I would never step foot in a theater, would I? And even if I end up really disliking a movie, I can usually find something about it that made it worth the ticket. X-Men Origins, for all of it's rape of the Marvel characters in it, was still good for three minutes of Ryan Reynolds being awesome as Wade Wilson. Likewise, even if a movie sticks remarkably close to its source material doesn't mean I'll like it. Watchmen was good for Rorschach, but I really hated the movie outside of that.
The thing is though, I don't know how I really feel about a movie until I see it for myself. And whether I end up enjoying it or not, I usually have a good time just by going to a movie theater these days. I'm a person who likes to be entertained, and I don't see any harm in finding that amusement in a movie half of my fandom friends don't want to watch.
EDIT: This post was not written to stir up wank or be a douche or anything. It's mainly just me going I WANT TO SEE A MOVIE PLEASE DON'T HATE ME WHEN I GO TO SEE THIS ONE, okay? XD
