Feb 20, 2021 18:04

So earlier in the week - I think it was Tuesday or Wednesday - a friend of mine who shall remain J*** texted me to remind me to check MY TURN which is the California site for signing up for the covid19 vaccine. She is much more on things than I am and we had been checking daily and this day was the winner - appointments were available in our area ( Read more... )

Congrats! That is terrific. I would certainly want a vaccine if I worked on campus! So glad you got one!

I was supposed to get my second dose today and my appointment was cancelled because they ran out of vaccine. "We will call you for a new appointment"--sigh! I was surprised at how sad it made me. I was really looking forward to it.

Thank you. I hope they call you soon. The supply is so unreliable - seems like. I am sure they will get more.

Congrats on getting your first vaccine! I'm glad it was an easy process and that you didn't have a reaction to it.

It took a lot to get the appointment but once I had that it was pretty easy. My arm is pretty sore and that seems to be the only thing for this dose. I have heard there are symptoms from the second dose so will see how that is. Thanks!

First lot of vaccine they got hold of turned out to be non-effective with the nasty local mutation, so currently they're trying to find buyers for a million jabs - the science only came through after they were already in the country because our luck is like that. Then they moved a few mountains and we're currently live trialing Johnson & Johnson - the only way they could legally give it to health care workers while the paperwork goes through. Must say the company went out of their way to try and help though. We got 80,000 doses so you can imagine how far that won't go but there's more coming in a few weeks and then later possibly some Pfizer --- If everything goes according to plan I might get my chance sometime in July. It's childish to be so jealous of the wealthy nations ability to get this moving, I know... could be worse, could be living in the DRC or somewhere (though then I'd need to be more worried about ebola, so rather stick where I am, that stuff is terrifying ( ... )

Which vaccine did not work with the variant there? I am curious about that. I have been following the science and I am hoping the vaccine I got will work with the variants that are out there.

I do really wish that access is better around the world. I hope you can get it in good time. I was thinking I would get it by summer but I qualified to get it early because I work in education and that group is earlier. So that is why I got it earlier. I was prepared to wait longer for it.

Ebola totally scares me and there are two outbreaks of that. Small ones.

Stay safe there. *huggles*

It's the British (made in India) AstraZeneka we had the problem with - an excellent vaccine for the original version of the virus but not sufficiently effective for use on the variant. I don't think it's available in the U.S. yet - you possibly had Moderna, which seems very solid They are still arguing about what stage education fits into their timetable here --- so many different groups clamouring that they are high risk, some of which are really taking a chance. As far as I'm concerned education should come right after healthcare, along with the over-60s.

I'm glad you're half way (and even the single dose seems to be very effective). It's worth the sore arm. Gods, ALL of them seem to produce a sore arm, and I am such a baby about shots, lol. I watched the President having his and literally cringed at how long that needle stayed in him!

I got the Pfizer one here so I hope that is effective - I think it is 50% effective against the South Africa variant so at least it is something. The virus is changing so fast they will have to develop new vaccines soon. I am not sure how much South Africa variant we have here so have to see that. We have two California variants so I have to see how that works with the vaccine. It makes your head spin.

The arm was really sore but today, finally, it is better. It was a significant shot but not painful - kind of long actually. I hate shots so I looked away when they did it. I can never look when they do it.

*hugs*

Glad you could get your first dose. My daughter has had both doses now since she works at a preschool. I went with her for the drive-thru appointments and your description of your experience matches hers and my sister's who did the drive-thru in North Carolina. Seems that once you get an appointment, it goes relatively smoothly, with occasional glitches in the supply -- like the recent cold wave in the midwest which has now delayed shipments here. I was finally able to get an appointment for my first for March 1. Let's hope I can actually get it. The vaccines have given me hope that we might get back to somewhat normal by this time next year. *crosses fingers.*

I am so glad you have your appointment and will get it. I feel hopeful now too and maybe we will have a new normal - post-pandemic era now. I hope we can do a little bit better than we were doing and improve some things.
