I'm back with the second round of my random album pickings. Again, none are particularly new, but all of them come recommended. Comments are lovely, but comments after listening are even lovelier ♥

Previously: random album pickings #1

Hot Chelle Rae - Lovesick Electric

Does admitting I like Hot Chelle Rae mean that I instantly lose my indie cred? If so, well I don't particularly mind, because Lovesick Electric is catchy and so much fun. Some people have been requesting this album on the communities I frequent, which prompted me to give this album its first spin (metaphorically) in a long time, and made me remember how much I liked them. They're so infectious, my fingers and toes immediately start tapping along. Electropop or dancepop is not even remotely one of my favorite genres in music, and it takes something really good for me to recommend something along the lines. Give these guys a try if you need a pick-me-up or just something to let loose and dance to. (On a lower note, while the more ballad-esque tracks in this album are not bad, they kind of break up the energy and might be a bit of a downer.)

Zee Avi - Zee Avi

Having pored over my laptop for many long hours, I naturally had a terrible headache and needed something soothing to unwind with at the end of the day. This album was the perfect answer. Zee Avi was one of those discovered during the youtube signing frenzy. She possesses a lovely lilting voice with some flutter in it -- rather like Adele, only somewhat more whimsical. The emotion she conveys in her voice is stunning. Some of her songs would fit right in on a car-cruising mixtape, despite (or maybe because of) a jazzy feel to them.

The Swell Season - Strict Joy

Also known as the people from Once, or "the people who sang that 'Falling Slowly' song". This album feels extremely personal, and depicts relationship highs with soaring instrumentation, and lows with a fragile melancholic, and sometimes bitter, voice. The tracks off this album feel at once dreamy, wistful, and full of longing. While I believe these two have more to offer than this, it's still a rather beautiful album to listen to when you're in a mellow mood, or when you're at a crossroad in a relationship.

tracklist

01. Low Rising

Other Lives - Other Lives

Folk and rock combined with a strong classical string and piano arrangements accompanied by a haunting voice. This album is filled with ambience. It's the kind of album you would listen to on a lazy Sunday; when all you want peace and quiet, but at the same time, you still want to listen to music that isn't going to overwhelm your senses. One of my favorite albums and if I'd played songs from the physical album and not from my ipod, I might possibly have damaged the CD from overuse. What can I say? I have many lazy Sundays (and Mondays, and Tuesdays...).

tracklist

01. Speed Tape
