Proteus (the name of the A.I. in Demon Seed) would, in a way, be like HAL from the 2001: A Space Odyssey, but he's worse. This woman, Susan, Proteus to have a child with to have as a sort of vessel to transfer all its intelligence into the infant so he could maintain his smarts while actually feel and experience real human emotions. ...Creepy, really messed up stuff. After reading the synopsis of the film version I think I'd see it for curiosity's sake. The whole premise Koontz thought up was a bit ahead of its time.
It would make one wonder just how much more trust we could put into high advanced technology, and how far people would push and spend into making technology even more advanced until it grows to be so intelligent that it would do harmful things to people let alone outsmart them.
I'm sometimes really drawn to such twisted (and very complex) villains and dark heroes. More so to provoke thinking.
I searched one library and there aren't any copies of the 1973 or 1997 versions of the novel. It's the same plot in both, but they are written out differently. I hope to find copies of either one at the other library I've frequently been to.
