Rightfully so, most artists have a fear of their work being stolen, credited to others, or reproduced without permission. It’s truly terrifying to think about the number of bloggers I’ve helped who thought they could Google search for any old content, copy it (or worse hotlink it) and post it in an entry with or without credit.
Work posted on the internet is not public domain! Just ask Jodi of
MCP Actions who
recently found out her photographs were unknowingly pulled from the internet and used in a promotional flyer for an unrelated photographer’s photography workshop! She actually had to teach that lesson to a PR rep this week!
What if there was an easy way to signal to others that they could use your work as long as you got credit? What if there was a place you could go to easily find all the freely licensed content your heart desires? Here’s another secret: you can!
