Thought y'all might enjoy getting a peek at the travelling crab, now that she (note: No, I do not know if she is a she or a he, but I think of her as a she) is home safe and sound.
^^Essie is wearing a lovely African Turbo shell, about the size of the palm of my hand. Who needs a spongbob painted shell when there is such amazing beauty and safety in the natural shells? When the photographer first arrived, Essie was still sleeping off the effects of her wayward travels.
^^Essie gives a few warning flexes with her claw. How dare we awaken her? That claw is about the size of the pad of my thumb, and yes, Essie has been known to pinch. Most of the crabs I have don't pinch when handled, but Essie will and does pinch, and yes, it hurts when she does. I love that their claws are purple!
^^She finally decides to show her lovely face. The photographers hand is in the pic for two reasons: 1)As soon as she came out of her shell, she tried to run for cover, muttering something about "those *%#@ paparazzi" that I didn't quite catch and B) for something to use as a size scale. Essie is classified ... just barely ... as a jumbo. She can still get much, much bigger.
^^Look at the sparkle in her eyes. Do you think she's planning more mischief? She hasn't even gotten all the cobwebs off from her previous adventure! Again, my hand shows a bit about what size she is.
^^Finally, Essie graciously agrees to pose for one shot without being restrained...
^^...and then she's off to complain to her manager about these two-bit early afternoon jobs where the photographer doesn't even bring coffee!! She did make me agree to read all of her fanmail to her in front of all the other crabs, so please, keep her cards and letters coming!
