Oy..
So, I'm at the CNN.com website and notice.. the Saints might be losing New Orleans. We all know the team is pretty bad, but.. ya gotta love them. They're just part of the city. Anyway, the owner wants to move them to San Antonio.. everyone's complaining.. even the mayor pitched in. "We want our Saints back.. we might not want the owner back." *smirk* the N.O. mayor's been really public since the hurricane.. I dunno about anything he did before Katrina, but, they have all ready re-opened the Quarter and our busting their ass to fix the rest of the city. Truth be told, though.. the damage was so extensive that, from what I was told by someone who had to pass through there, there are huge parts of the city that have not even been touched. It'll take years to recuperate.. but, at least Nagin was smart enough to rush to re-open the tourism areas.. New Orleans lifeblood, so to say.
I was thinkin' about it, though.. not that, but somethin' else. It was only a few decades ago when blacks and whites were segregated, any sympathy towards blacks would get you killed.. and now, at least politically, there's not such a major chasm between the two. Both Mobile and N.O. have black mayors, and for all the rednecks and supremacists who declare that it's not right, or that it shouldn't be done, all I can say is, there's a lot of sorry white trash in politically offices.. and that isn't right, and shouldn't be done in my opinion. One of the Democratic.. senators?.. I think he's Democratic, I haven't kept up with the political landscape in months.. some guy whose last name is Obama has been rumored to run for president when the time rolls around. I'd love to think our country has come far enough that, as a majority, it doesn't still view blacks and whites as seperate entities.. we all bleed red, we all succumb to the bad sometimes, and we can all do good if we want to.. but, I've known a lot of people, both in the North and South who hold it to their hearts that blacks are innately crime-prone and should all be deported. There's Baptist preachers who vocally promote that... now, I've never read the bible, and I never will, but for those of you who have, is there any reference in it to.. well, that? I'm sure there isn't.. just another example of religious "authority" pushing their agenda, not gods. Catholics fuck little children, some Baptists want to fuck over the minorities.. wonder what's next.
I think it'd be refreshing to see someone other than a white businessman in office. I'd really wanted Colin Powell to run for office.. he was a military man, but he was the moderate voice in the White House.. perhaps because having been in a number of wars before, he'd seen first-hand the atrocities that are caused by it. Of course, if we ever do have one, it'll bring to mind a comment by Dave Chapelle.. "Don't be the first black man to do something.".. I don't doubt that a black president would probably have to bust their ass to avoid assassination. I'm enough of a realist to understand that, as nice as it would be for the people of the U.S. to view us all as equals.. it's not true. It doesn't happen. There are far too many people who would never feel right with someone other than a white president, but it'd be great if it one day did come about. Just probably not during my lifetime.. *sigh*
I'd comment on how uncivilized and narrow-minded Americans are, but then again, a lot of Europe isn't much better. There's a lot of racism and prejudice over there.. just aimed at different people. Jews and, apparently, Hispanics aren't such a hot item over there. A friend of mine in Denmark mentioned that Hispanics are very, very not welcome.. .. and then a friend in Portugal said the same about any Middle Easterner. Sigh..
I wonder if I marry an Asian or a Hispanic, if my family'll be fine with it.. I know they don't like "interracial", but they're definition of interracial is.. black. Hmm. Actually, I know they'd be fine if I married an Asian.. and probably even a Hispanic, now that I think about it. It's sad.. depressing.. but, hey, I'm not totally unprejudiced myself. Not against a race, but.. I personally view people like the "Reverend" Jesse Jackson as a complete idiot who goes out of his way to make his own race look like idiots.. like they need the same help that they could just as easily work for. And that welfare mothers are just fine.
This country'd be in deep shit if I ever got in office.. I don't support welfare except in extreme circumstances. I don't like paying taxes so some lazy whore can have an eighth kid for more money. That sort of a mother is not the kind of role model anyone should have, and surely doesn't need kids. I mean, if you're active enough to fuck, you're active enough to work. If you can't do one, don't do the fuckin' other.
I love my country, and what it could stand for.. there's not many countries where you can actually be born low and rise to the top (European countries are an example.. some of them have incredibly high taxes to keep the poor in their 'place'), bu god damn if we don't reward the undeserving as well. If this were Russia, we'd probably just shoot them all.. crude, it might be, but it works. I wouldn't move there, though.. not ever. A friend from Indiana is an exchange student over there until next summer.. since I met her, she's done nothing but rave about how great Russia is, but after being there a month, she's said it's not what she expected. No one trusts anyone, for anything. The family she's staying with warned her about bringing any 'friends' to the house.. not because she's American, but because paranoia seems to be the Russian norm.
No, I'd much rather move to France or Germany.. avoid England because it's too damn cold and foggy there.. and hope the Nazi movement that's growing in Germany doesn't ever have the foothold that it used to. Nazis don't like Americans any more than they like blacks or Jews.. I'd be deader than hell before I knew it. :-/ However, I enjoy Germany's music scene, and I've been told Paris has the best food in the world.. so.. who knows?
Anyhoo, I must be going, after much ranting and raving. Going to Destin for the day <3 Might as well enjoy the Florida beaches while they still have them..
