Summary: Kravian's top two killers need to find a way to decide who's number one. One shot. The last man standing is number one.
Sungmin pulled his gloves down tighter, the elastic material snapping harshly on his skin. Patting his hips down to make sure that the guns were securely in place, he stepped out into the open stone courtyard.
It was old, moss growing on fallen stones, and the stone flooring was crumbled and had various plants growing through the cracks. A tree was snaking its way up one of the pillars, showing how long this place had been abandoned. The sun was shining brightly in the little area, and in the halls surrounding the courtyard, it shone through the cracks.
KyuHyun came out of the other side, looking at his opponent carefully. A small smile was on his face, and the black coat was tossed aside carelessly. His black hair was gelled in spikes, and his boots were wide with small spikes coming up the sides. He cocked the small pistol, letting the shell come into its place and looked up towards Sungmin.
Staring straight into the other’s eyes, Sungmin’s eyes glinted in a way that could be called sorrow, or it could be revenge. "We will find out today who will be the lead in our group."
"Kravian has no needs for you, Sungmin." A dark glint flashed in his eyes, but his words made a twinge go through even his heart.
Kravian was an organization that had many employers, doing odd-jobs, assassinations, and other illegal gigs. KyuHyun and Sungmin were on the top, but as their fight for dominance began, it became harsher and harsher until the top leaders called the shot. One of them was going to be number one, and since the other wouldn’t settle for two, they would have to settle for death.
This way of settling things was old, and it could possibly kill them both. Unfortunately, the bad thing about their job was the competition. People would easily replace them. So now they were down to this.
HanGeng was with them now, the cold-blooded killer at third place in Kravian. It was said he had no feelings, and his cold exterior was proof of that. His chilling eyes could make any man shudder, and he was the one to give word to the top people at Kravian who won.
Standing in between them in the courtyard, HanGeng watched as they both faced each other, a single pistol in hand. A raised hand, a signal for their attention instead of giving each other blood curdling stares. "You two will come to the middle, and stand back to back from each other. Five steps. At five steps you will turn around and shoot, you will count your steps aloud. The winner is obviously the one left standing. If you both are down, but are still alive, we will shoot again. If you both miss, which I doubt considering your positions, we will shoot again.
Are you both ready?"
The two nodded, walking together as if on signal, although none had been given. HanGeng stepped back while they turned around to press their backs together. "Start!"
"One." The two spoke their words loud.
"KyuHyun!" Sungmin rushed as guards came after him, already seeing his figure after the man slumped to the ground. KyuHyun was up in the flight above him. Running up a small ramp curiously situated in a good position, Sungmin launched himself into the air, stretching his hand out, knowing that KyuHyun would catch it.
"Two."
Sungmin jumped out of the boat, after making sure the controls were dismantled. All the computers were crashed and the captain was dead where he sat. It was a clean cut, a perfect dive, and KyuHyun jumped after him. They always did their missions together, even if they said they could do it just as well on their own (although really, they worked best as a team). KyuHyun made a splash, and then struggled swimming in the water. Mumbling, because even as panicked as he was as his eyes darted back and forth he thought of their cover, "I can’t swim…" he was happy to see Sungmin rush over to him and take them both to shore.
"Three."
"What do you do this for anyway?" The two breathed deeply, steadying their heads with the low oxygen up in the air. Parachute equipment was loaded on their backs, ready to sky-dive to the next location.
KyuHyun was somber for once, the normal maniac grin that was his trade-mark hidden. "Kravian killed my father. Now I’m going to reach to the top and kill the men who did it."
Sungmin couldn’t answer that, but simply took a deep breath as he dove from the plane, counting the numbers slowly in his head so that he knew when to pull the lever.
"Four."
The two stood back to back of each other, quickly shooting down the guards that came their way. They circled quickly, shooting and somehow managing to hit each opponent, changing the shells quickly and then finally running running running…
Sungmin had felt someone behind him - he had always had better perceptions of that sort of stuff than KyuHyun - and turned quickly, running backwards. Cocking his gun once more, he shot the man behind KyuHyun, somehow having followed them.
An odd sort of parody on KyuHyun’s smile, and then he turned around once more, bursting through the fire exit and volleying himself through the air. Grasping onto the waiting silent helicopter’s ladder, he scaled it quickly, giving KyuHyun plenty of room to jump as well.
"Five."
The two immediately turned, words and memories passing each other’s eyes in seconds. Bang.
Sungmin felt as if the world had suddenly stopped, and he stared into KyuHyun’s eyes as they widened. He saw the bullet’s path and knew that even if he moved now, he wouldn’t be able to dodge it. ("Can you stop a speeding bullet?" "…once.") And then he was on the ground. A harsh pain made him cough, cough, cough as if all he could do was cough and there was blood on his hand and why was everything so bright all of a sudden? His heart made this weird shuttering noise, and he looked up to see KyuHyun. "Ah."
KyuHyun kneeled next to him, nostrils flaring out wildly as he breathed in deep breaths. He snatched away the gun from Sungmin’s limp hand, and opened it up. "It’s not… loaded."
Sungmin smiled, "No…" His heart shuttered again, and somehow his legs seemed to give out. It was good he wasn’t standing.
"Then you…"
"Did it on purpose?" Sungmin coughed lightly, his hand coming up to cover his mouth. B-bmp. "Of course I did." B-bmp.
KyuHyun’s smile was gone. Why was his smile gone? "Why…?"
He pulled his hand away, grimacing at the colour on his hands, at the liquid dripping from his chin and gushing out at his wound, "You don’t know?" B-Bmp… b-bmp.
"Why?" KyuHyun’s nostrils flared out again, almost making Sungmin laugh, but then a single tear fell down.
"Because I love you." The pain that somehow Sungmin was able to filter out came back with a vengeance and attacked Sungmin with all its power. A high-pitched keen came from his mouth and his hand clenched tightly.
"Sungmin…"
"I’m sorry… that I loved you." Tears were easily streaming down Sungmin’s face now, evidence of the emotional and physical pain he was feeling right now.
"Sungmin…" KyuHyun leaned closer to Sungmin, kissing him lightly on the lips, tasting the blood in his mouth, tasting the saltiness of both of their tears…
"Become number one, KyuHyun. Avenge your family…"
A/N: If you are a fan of Gackt and HYDE and have happened to have seen Moon Child and have also happened to notice similarities... I don't deny them~ I based this scene off of it! Heazurr requested KyuMin angst, and she wanted character death... I was going to have Sungmin fall off a cliff because of the dark night and the thunderstorm, but as much as I could imagine it, I couldn't write it ^^; Random thought of Moon Child, and I got this~ <333
