I suppose I need to update my commissioning agreement and such. I’m going lenient on this request so I’ll do what I have to to get this done within a set time limit I’ve set myself. Hardest part about this request is the time zone difference. I believe the commissioner is in Australia and I’m in the US, which takes it a little longer to get updates done due to the time zone difference. Where as when I did requests for those that are in within the US the request comes out done a bit quicker due to being able to be on at the same time as the client and live streaming the request to them. It made it easy.
So the client wants a blogger template done with a custom mascot/character design. I gave them the quote and it was agreed. The character design was at first a penguin. I’m like alright a penguin I can do it and they did choose a style of the character and I try to keep it at that style. Here is the first rendition of the character design.
I was trying hard not to make it look like the linux penguin cause usually all my penguins ended up looking like Tux. Which I don’t understand how I could do that when I was trying to draw something else. Force of habit I guess? The client liked it but didn’t like the eyes. So in this second rendition of the penguin I changed the eyes to be more anime like.
Yeah it doesn’t look like there’s much of a difference does it. So then the client decided to change their mind about the type of character to use and asked for a baby seal to be drawn with a bow on it’s head.
So here’s the baby seal rendition.
It’s cute to say the least I’m not too sure on what is wrong. As you notice, the blue sketch pose was the original post I started out with. The tail was bent over to show both it’s fins however it didn’t look right to me and I made it look as it is now on the dark ink sketch. All these images are just sketch drafts at the moment. I probably will be posting updates on how this request is turning out as it progresses. It was looking bland when I drew this without the scarf and added the scarf in. Although I think I need to make it’s back look a little higher what it looks now. Or maybe make the shoulder size smaller. I’ll have to study some more baby seal reference to get a decent post and posture. Or at least get it anatomically correct.
I suppose more updates later in the upcoming week.
Also debating on moving my commission request form to this site. I think it makes more sense to move the request form to this site where I will be posting my works in progress and random sketches. Decisions, decisions.
