Been trying to think up ideas for a logo for my grandfather's biz, so far have only come up with two. It is much harder then it sounds to make up a good logo. Sure I could just draw a car and slap it next to the name of his biz, but that has been done over and over by every car painter/auto repair place out there. I'm sure my grandpap would be fine with that but I wouldn't.
There are quite a few rules to follow when making a logo, it isn't as straight forward as it looks. You need it to be able to scale easily from large to small, if it is too complex no one will know wtf it is when it is small. Also you need to use a vector based program when making it (example: illustrator), if you don't scaling it up will make it pixlated. You have to make it easily recognizable but it doesn't have to be recognized by things people see all the time, sounds strange but it is true. Take the Nike logo people recognize it even though very few know what it is or what it means. Why do people recognize it? Well they lived with it its been imprinted into there head, but more so because it is a simple design. A logo also has to be good with no color in it. Color adds to the price of printing it and a lot of the time color just can't be used when something is printed up (letterheads, envelopes, ext.), if it doesn't work with no color then it just won't work. Most of all, if you haven't figured it out by now, it needs to be simple. Most people only look at a logo for a few seconds then it is gone from there mind, if it is too complex they won't take it all in in those few seconds.
Anyways this is all I have for now, any ideas or suggestion would be nice.
This one is pretty basic, nothing much to say about it. Many businesses have logos that just say there name with very little style, sometimes that is all you need.
I really like this one, but I suppose that is because I like symbolism. A lot of big name logos use symbolism. Nike, Mitsubishi, Mercedes Benz, just to name a few. For the most part no one will know what the logo means but it doesn't matter, kudos to those that figure it out. Anyways this logo needs work but I like it.
