Ugh! Just, UGH!
It's such an eensy little thing, but it annoyed me so much.
No, this is not me ranting about fandom-wank. This is me being irritated with the Fail!Translations of the Manga books they sell.
What, might you ask, am I referring to? I bought myself the 5th Kimi Ni Todoke book today and just ....
First thing that bugged me, Kurumi called Pin "Mr.Arai" ... What? Just ... What? If you're going to have honourifics like "kun" and "Chan", get it right and call him "Arai-sensei!", and worse yet ... Kurumi doesn't call Pin Arai-Sensei anyway! She calls him Pin! Everyone does - with the exception of Sawako.
I was able to get over that though cause I only had another two chapters of the sports-festival left Thank god. Can't stand Kurumi in that arc, even if there are some really nice KazeWako moments
But then, and this really threw me... He's only a minor character. Anyone know Jyo? That guy with the slanted eyes who's the class-idiot with Chizu? The one who's Kazehaya obsessed? Yeah, him? The translators ... ... They called him Joe. What-The-Fuck? I understand they're close ... But, what the hell? Jyo =/= Joe! Joe is a western name, Jyo is a Japanese name, and the manga is, very clearly, set in Japan you morons!
I know it's really insignificant, he's not a main character, so on and so forth ... But that doesn't change the fuckassery of changing Jyo to Joe. It's almost as annoying as the way they flipped the first volumes of Inuyasha so it was read in the western way. Ugh.
THIS is why I prefer my scanlated manga, thankyou! Because translators just don't care sometimes. I remember one thing that really bugged me -- In Fruits Basket, when everyone's at the beach house for the first time (the first time we see Hatori sleeping), Shigure threatens to call Ayame for some reason ... ... Wanna know what the MadMan translation was? KAGURA! How the HELL do you get Kagura out of Ayame you dopey fucks? And, Yuki wouldn't have cared if it were Kagura, Kagura doesn't bother him, but noooooo, it's both he and Kyo that are all "Do that and die". The only person who can get that reaction out of Yuki, is Ayame.
UGH! If I didn't want to support the manga-ka, and also like being able to own the book, I wouldn't even bother with actually buying manga (As it is, I only buy for series I really like) ... And fuck ups like that is why. >.>

... Also, I'll post the next chapter of Draculquiorra shortly. I've still got a few more presents I need to wrap for Christmas at least I'm finally done with the buying part .... Sooooo, if not today, tomorrow =)
