Weekend Hike

Jun 26, 2012 12:33

I've been out in the mountains these past two weekends, and now that the weather finally decided to recognize that it's summer I will be out hiking or climbing more often than not. So I think I'll make trip reports about my hikes a regular thing. Just as much for me to keep track of my hikes as for you since you get to see some pretty pictures and tales of my (mis)adventures.

16.6.2012 Tegernsee - Schliersee

Stats:
  • Length: 19.19km
  • Duration: 6.5 hours
  • Ascent: 1335m
  • Descent: 1300m
Summits:
  • Pfliegeleck: 1106m
  • Riederstein: 1207m
  • Baumgartenschneid: 1444m
  • Gindelalmschneid: 1330m
For my first outing of the seaons I chose to walk from the Tegernsee (see=lake) to the Schliersee, and bag some summits along way. Both lakes are easily accessible from Munich by train. That's one of the things I love about this city. Just hop on a train, and 50 minutes later you're standing in the middle of the mountains. The weather was perfect, almost too hot for hiking.

Lessons Learned:
  • starting off the season with 1300m ascent/descent is too much; unless you really like being sore
  • the scenery in this part of Bavaria is stunningly beautiful
  • 2-2.5 liters of water is sufficient for a trip like this in the summer
  • I really need to learn to pace myself, listen to my body, and not just go on even though I'm tired
  • you need to stamp your train ticket, even though it has the date on it; otherwise you'll have to argue with the conductor
